Hikari ,

the info you 've provided here is clearly xtremely valueable.
i believe the thought behind it is what matters most and not the numbers.
i just wish more peeps on other boards, like Detox, could see the positive side of it and follow your example.
thanx a zillion times and keep up the smashing worx !

Christos

ps: off topic , we 're planning the release for OOOD 's 3rd album (http://www.triskelemanagement.com/oood.html). Could you please give me a very rough estimate, if possible, on how well they are known between the japanese party goers ? Thanx again

I wish that one day i will be able to sell more than 500 cds of my compilation in Japan hehe.

Just want to share with everyone that this day has finally come and that the sales are preety higher that my original wish LOL.

Thankfully Japan saves all the labels from economic disaster and collapse with its big sales that sometimes even represent 50% of the worldwide sales of a label.

P.S I also finally understood how some labels 'sell' 3000 copies to Japan by releasing their cds a month earlier in the Japanese territory, got some offers myself but i dont like (till now at least) the idea of licensing my music for release in Japan a month earlier than the rest of the world, the money are very very good but i dont think that the whole deal is very good for the label itself for various reasons.Damn so many secrets still to discover in this market.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Good to know its working out good for your label detox.
Nice compilations.

Anyways to update everybody on the situation in japan.

The sales have sadly fallen to an average of 1000 copies for compilations. Albums still around 1500.
But the CD sales in Japan are dropping rapidly.

Good luck to all labels.

There is also a small distribution company called <FILE RECORDS> actually they are not so small, and very realiable and powerfull because it is a small company of SONY (Sony owns almost share of them). They use all record shop <HMV,TOWER,CISCO, etc> ... pm/mail me if you want me to interface at the beginning ...

Anybody in the know care to expand on this?? I saw by one of Taku's (Groove-Zone) previous posts that the new Groove-Zone comp, Aerocruz, was due out June 20th. I was cruising through Tower Records today, by my reckoning, June 8th, and managed to pick it up. I'm not always that clever, but my mother learned me that 8 comes before 20.

Do things change that quickly when dealing with distributers??? Don't get me wrong Taku, this is certainly no complaint, I was more than happy to find it early, but it just seemed strange to me... just curious about the probably sometimes not clear relationship between artists/labels/distributers.

I won't be surprised if nobody is willing to air any dirty laundry, or complain about being kept in the dark, but I'd certainly be interested to hear if anybody did!!

By the way, another excellent compilation from Groove-Zone!! Hope I can make it to the Omb party!!

Distributions have a tight schedule in Japan. Usually we release new titles every wendsday.

The release date for Japan, must always be before the release date for the world. If Taku made the release date for the world, June 20th. Then hes got to release in Japan before(due to import version problems).

Release dates can be flexible if the product is ready to go 3 months before the release date.

I think File records is pretty flexible and can work starting from two months before the release.

Decided to update this thread when some changes occur.

Right now, we are going into the depression period for the sale of psy cd`s.
An Average sale of a cd is about 200-500 copies right now in Japan.
Its still going down. Every month...

The reason for the dramatic drop in the sale of CD`s? Too many releases in one month.
There are too many labels releasing too many things in one month. The shops do not know what to sell...

Anyways, Wakyo is putting on some power lately. They are organizing parties, distributing, doing a lot of things.

A new distribution in the trance Market is called 3D SYSTEM. I dont have much info. about these guys, but they do handle trance.

2006 looks like a even harder year for the sale of CD`s.
I will keep everybody updated.

Yeap the inevitable has come, with all these releases out there the shops and the customers are tottally confused and sales are going lower all the time.

Shops are obliged to feature every new release on their selfs so they cut some cds from the 'bigger' labels to provide the audience with couple of copies from smaller labels even if the release is really bad.

Ofcourse the good thing is that more or less the people can tell a good release from a crappy one so labels who are putting a lot of effort in their products dont face serious problems with their distribution in Japan.

Even me with just 5 releases in my roster (the 5th release coming out this week) i increased my sales from my first release to the fifth release around 200% meaning that half my sales come from Japan which makes me a very very happy person.

So thank you all at ZMA,Cisco and Wakyo and most of all thanks to the Japanese crowd that seems to appreciate good stuff when they see it.

I wish things were like that also in Europe but ok who knows maybe things change soon           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!
