the number i know for a fact for one of the most well-known european progressive labels releasing through wakyo is about 300 per compilation. not very good at all...

if you're not an alien project/gms clone, it's difficult to sell anything in Japan.

Detox,
These numbers are just estimates of how much international labels sell in japan, just something to show which distributions have the promotional power.
They arent exact numbers, please keep this in mind.

everything varies, style of music, etc...
When i released my cd through cisco we got a sale of about 400 copies.
The second album we released got a sale of 1800cds this was through limited records.

I have just wrote what i know. A lot more people can fill in on the specifics.

Russ in Japan only big and commercial names like GMS and Alien Project sell the most, this ofcourse takes place also in most countries of the world hehe.

Hikari you sold 1800 cds ONLY IN JAPAN from a single album release?

Sorry but which release was that cause its difficult for me to believe such a thing.I mean i doubt that even names like GMS and Alien Project dont sell that much in Japan from what i know.

If you sold 1800 cds just in Japan how many cd's did you sold worlwide?           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

detox dude.

the japanese market is very diffrent from the world wide market.

And be sure that the locals know how to sell their cd's better. and what hikari says is real.

the estimates hes givin here are close to what happens there and i am not talking only hommega.

yes that is why I been saying FOR YEARS that the business chances exist here in Japan.

Once you get connected with the right distribution, the kids buy loads of cds, believe it or not.

Good luck, label owners.

Kowens i am just participitaning in this conversation and because every day i speak with various label owners from all around the world and i know whats going on in the market its very difficult for me to believe things like what Hikari said about 1800 copies of one single album JUST IN JAPAN!I wish it was true but sounds really weird to me in any case.

By the way i happen to work with people in Japan and i dont just say things like 'Numbers seem right to me' like you said. What seems right may not be right at all you know.Thats why i asked Digital Syndicate where he gets his info from about sales and distributions.

Rumours are easy to spread but facts and real numbers is a tottally different thing and you have to be INTO THE BUSINESS in order to know whats going on....

Hujaboy mate for sure the Japanese market is the biggest in the psy trance world and i am sure that locals know how to promote THEIR CDS the best way possible.BUT the thing like i said in one of my previous posts is whats going on there with outside labels like for example Neurobiotics Records,Alchemy Records,Nano Records just to name a few labels that just came in my mind.

And to reach a conclusion i think that Hikari's number are higher than the real numbers for 20%-25% according to my own direct experience so far with various labels.

Thats me anyway           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

detox-i dont question your knowledge of the trance world and business...but i just think that hikari and others posted this in order to help and I thank them for that, for them and for me trance is not a business but a love affair..I cant wait until people stop trying to exploit trance in japan for their own profit and instead try and spread the love and music behind true psychedelic trance(like russ in mindgames, spliffnik, and Hikari's free party all of which tried to give back to the people!!!)..and by teh way you have to BE IN A PARTY here to truly understand this..good luck in your detox cause you need it!

Well, the cd which got 1800 is the Psyside Album. This was about a year ago. Since then even limited records has gone down in numbers. I cant say how much we spent on promotion, but we spent A LOT!

Detox, I have said, Limited Records is THE MOST Powerful distribution for psytrance. If your GMS, your not looking at 2000 copies, The last GMS Album got over 5000. Also why do you keep insisting on these numbers? I have told you these are just estimates, Measures to show which distribution has more promotional power. And about being in the business, Unfortunatly I AM IN THE BUSINESS(with my label). Also I will be working at Limited Records from september.
Are you sure your in close contact with, Shane and Edoardo? cuz these numbers are very close to what they have sold in japan. I work with both of them.

As Shed has said, if your a label, Japan has chances. A lot of kids buy cd`s here(only in the psytrance scene).

Detox i agree you have to have your say; we live in a democracy. Also if one album can sell 1800 copies in japan then it is amazing, because i must agree that most record labels are lucky to sell 1800 worldwide.
Let us take you on a journey, that will take you from are small world stage and orbit you beyond our fragile planet......

Ok there are two sides in every coin so its better for me to stop this discussion here.

Everyone can see his side of the coin hehe.

P.S I wish that one day i will be able to sell more than 500 cds of my compilation in Japan hehe.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!
