Big thanks for you help!
I guess I would have to go for a desktop then:-)
It's just that someone told me there is no real difference nowadays between a good pc or laptop.
And besides just taking it with me once in a while, I don't actually NEED to have a laptop, I just thought it would be convenient.

No problems. The difference is all a matter of how you compere. But if you push your project to the limit (as we often do) with 8 inserts on 48 channels there is still a big difference if you ask me. Also the fact that laptops don't have the ability to use PCIe sound-cards (except for some rare models) matters and thereby determines the stability for your system.

Maybe USB 3.0 sound-cards will establish and improve that, future will tell. God luck with your purchase.

Tomorrow I'm probably going to purchase the system.
Since there are quite a few different Corsair 8 gb memory units, could anyone confirm if I have the correct one with this:

http://azerty.nl/0-756-365411/corsair-vengeance-.html

And for the cooling I 'figured' this would be a good option:

http://azerty.nl/0-976-467587/be-quiet-shadow-rock-topflow-sr1-.html

And this case:

http://azerty.nl/0-1044-483003/antec-one-.html

Do I have everything correct here?

Btw, I'd like to keep my system as dust free as possible.
Any tips for this?

Well I actually got this system some weeks ago, and it is major relieve to finally have solid running system which can handle all sorts of vst's and whatever running all simultaneously, but I'm having some serious trouble getting my Virus Ti Snow to run without any crackling going on.
I read about disabling the Usb3 functionality, but a setting for this does not seem to be available in the bios.
Does anyone else have any tips of getting the Virus to run smoothly?

cant help you with the virus, just curious how the noise level of the case is. do yo hear it? and did you put the componenents together yourself or the shop, if so how much they charged?           http://soundcloud.com/vipal

Well my old computer was really noisy, almost as bad as a vacuum cleaner, so this new one feels like heaven:-)
To be honest, I haven't even closed the case yet, as I was going to do some more hardware changes to the system, but even like this it's very silent.
But so far I'm very pleased with it and all I ever hear is the harddrive going, not the fan, which is HUGE.
I did put the components together myself, apart from a few screws in the case which the local shop did for free.
This pc is so great I can insert heavy reverb after heavy reverb and it holds up easily.
And even Diva runs very smooth here, so much that I'm doubting whetter I have to keep my Virus or not.

Hi!

I had to go with a powered USB hub like this:
(http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-High-Speed-USB-2-0-7-Port/dp/B000ESN9GA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1349037867&sr=8-3&keywords=belkin+hub) to get a stable connection.

It is important to use exactly that model, don't know why though. And DO NOT connect anything else on the same USB - line.

If that don't do it for you i recommend you to contact Access support. They have some excellent guys that can support.

Good luck!

I already am using a powered usb hub.
Altough I don't really see the difference I should maybe check out this one, see how that goes.
Thanks!

a good quality Shielded High Speed USB cable thats no longer than 3 feet or as short as you can manage with

dont go mental, try any old cable you have lying around first

(i found the one they ship to cause a lot of problems in this aspect)

also bandwidth is crucial here so if you try to have the virus on its own bus

finally play around with your buffer setting

let me known if you find any improvement in the audio dropout          Â°Â°Â°ACTS 4:12°°°°

I kind of figured out what was causing the crackling and stuff.
There's this application called Easytune6, which came with my motherboard and after I closed it everything seems to be fine so far.
Don't really understand how, but it really looks like that was bugging the Virus's performance.
Thanks for your reply though!

Well after all I'm having some serious issues with my Snow right now!
Just ordered that specific hub, see how that goes.
At first I wouldn't believe there would be any difference in the usb hub used, but someone explained it at the access music forum and he got me confinced.
Now keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to finally get rid of all this crackling sound nonsense
