thank you very much for you review, jds! and the video is just beautiful!
the review was really descriptive and I had an awesome feeling of how the festival went this year.. magical as always!
unfortunately the bad points really sucks, but just as you said, you get over them really fast with the good vibes and moments of that paradise!
I will ask permission to paste the review and the video link in another forum.

Hey cool, glad you got something out of it. The bad points probably sound worse than they were. I like doing a brain dump after a party or festival but when I look at it after writing I'm always like: "why'd I write that, it's so self indulgent" haha, then I feel stupid.
Anyway, feel free to copy and link anywhere but maybe just keep that last paragraph out. It's way too negative sounding. I don't know where my head was at when I wrote that.

I read that Andromeda was stabbed and had all his gear stolen at the festival this year! Fortunately he was not badly injured and is ok now. Really sad to hear of this kind of thing happening at UP

Alok went on orkut and baladaplanet`s forum and spoke out about the incident 3 days after the festival.
Please do not take into consideration the rumours or some message that says that knives were involved. And certainly do not be put off by coming to brazil with such unfounded occurances.
Ps: If alok`s answer wasn`t so long and so indepth i`d even consider translating it.
(BTW, I have nothing to do with the universo crew) |

Well andromeda wrote on his blog that this is what happened though the entry has now mysteriously been taken down. I guess only the man himself can really explain what happened. The most important thing is that he is ok.
Edit: I am only reporting what I read and have no means of verifying whether or not it is indeed true. This is not intended as an attack on the organisers of universo paralello who by all accounts do a fantastic job at organising their festival.

Well if you can`t provide a source, one shouldn`t be stiring shit now should we?
So it`s okay to call it a festival of thieves if andromeda is fine right?
It`s okay that he doesn`t have the balls to do a formal appology?
As they say life goes on, I just predict that after this fiasco he shall be pratically avoided by brazilian promoters in general |

always an issue, especially on the last night
I am posting this so we can get to the bottom of
what happened, and not because i believe Andromeda, or Alok, without knowing the facts
What I don't understand is why are the two
accounts (Alok vs Andromeda) so wildly different?
What really happened?

We will make sure that if you come to our festival you will be stabbed, mugged robbed. stolen from, duped, tricked and in the end left with no help whats oever. If its not the bus driver taking you to the festival or the guys working in the security who Steal from you, you can be sure that there is plenty of more criminals waiting for you ready to be at your service as soon as you arrive to the location. Come here and celebrate the dodgy life styles of the favellas in a palm tree environment. Besure to attach things to your body so you make it a challenge for the thieves, It wont help though but they like the game when its more difficult for them., here in brasil during many hundreds of years they have developed the most astonishing methods how to rip..you off and make you absolutey fucked beyond words, this might sounds like harsh words but come and see if for your self. In my case this was the 1 time where I realise that the trance scene isnt what is used to be.. its no fun anymore with the festivals only attracts criminal gangs to prey on easy targets: the hippie and tribal community while they are drunk or on drugs is an easy target; Too easy. and the festival organizer normally dont have any means to control this. What I saw the last years in festival with huge crowds of gypsies and other famous criminal networks comin to the festivals and become friends withthe people just in order to steal.
I see the whole pattern and im not staying in this.. Its impossible..I can not have beeing stabbed with a knife when I come to play my music. I will not fear for my life one more time as I did in the Universo Paralello. I will not be stolen and targeted like that again and so I will never come back. This was it and im sorry for that, that it happened that way but when one have to protect one self from mad people with weapons stabbing my body it has past the point of being worth it.As I wasnt attached once but had our things stolen from the MAIN STAGE at the festival where the security was just means that the security is in on it too.
They get payed money from the festival to be in the area and can steal romthe fstiva goers hehe. Sad but true in Brazil.. I Recomend everyone to not go to very criminal countries festivals but go to where its more safe countries for example in Europe and in Australia etc. I cant guarantee anything though since it seems that the criminals target festival all over the globe. sadly aswell this was not just single cases but we had Cues to the Swedish embassy from people who got mugged and robbed.we all had the same point of view, Universo paralello isnt really that great.. except for good music and art and palmtrees then the rest was so so. and this is supposed to be one of the best festivals in the world I think not. They didnt even care to bring the needed equipment for us so that we could play live.. they did this to more or less most of the artists.. they just say> play your back up cd..we dont want live..we just want you to play safe and press play on the backup cd. I was stunned. SO dont believe if they tell they had alot of live acts because they didnt care to bring equipment to almost any artist, no synths and no nothing ,and so there we are again, so almost noone could play live..Now listen to this weird Logic: UP books us as a live act so we bring our equipment, bring our lap tops. our gears, our guitars and all that and then UP just to ask us to play the backup cd? and then our gear get stolen from the main Stage? Why te hell does Universo paralello want us to bring the fucking gear then if they dont want us to play live or use it and the nit just gets stolen from the Main stage.. while there was guards? AHHHHRGGG!!! ? Incredible UNLOGIC behaviour, I Strongly rather then recomend RainBow Serpent in Australia as an alternative festival..its absoutely fabulous.. But life goes on and im now licking my wounds in salvador trying to sort out all the problems. the health is ok.. ive been stiched together and only mentally im hurt. I hope I can train my right hand again so I can continue to play my Guitar in life..To all out there I can only say.. Stop Supporting criminals, dont go to very criminal countries; let them steal from them selves so they can see how fun it is. im not gonna let them steal from me one more time.this was definetly the very last time in brazil.

Furthermore, as a remark on the issue of Crime, having a party of 25,000 middle-class people in a
poor region is inevitably going to attract crime.
Having a party in a rich area of brazil or europe
is obviously going to attract less crime.
I would be interested to know how much they
pay those women who are cleaning the toilets
24/7
This is the sociological reality.

If you do a festival in sao paulo, well it would cost a fortune. it would be double the price, a festival made for foreigners.
30 reais daily for the cleaners on a 12 hour shift it seems but please DO NOT quote me, i might have out of date salaries. But compared to what they get on the farms this is wayyyyyyyy higher. |

soulvision festival is in sao paulo, same price. and also, why would a higher price mean a festival just for foreigners. there are many rich brazilians.
cheap labour is certainly an advantage, but it comes with its costs, such as the security being complicit in robbery, which is certainly the case at UP.
30 reais is better than the agricultural wage, which would be 10-15 r for an 8 hour back breaking day in the tropical sun. its a much easier job for double the money...
Perhaps a new location that is easier to secure? Pratigi beach is open and easy to penetrate...
And better, professional security |
