seems everyone now is using this term to describe a specific new genre which is a in-between Full On and NightTime.
What exactly is Twilight? Big Deep bassline, hard full on with dark ambiance and melodic to a certain limit?
And who came up with that name?
Artist i'd put into "the twilight zone"(hahaha funny me) would be:
Abomination
Frozen Ghost
Scorb
Chromatone?
Materia records?(painkiller, biogenesis and the rest)
Space tribe & Electric universe?

... i mostly associate it with the advent of dawn.
So basically some artist whose music is good to play around that special hour. Somewhat powerful but also spiritual. My roster would look like..

First of all, this is down to the individual, what they prefer when the sun starts to rise.
When its dark, I prefer hard edged psychedelic trance, mostly called "dark psy" or "dark full on".
Once the sun starts to rise, I like the color of the music to change. So, what sounds represent the new colors best for you ?
For me, I find the heavier full on tracks the best 142-146 BPM typicly.
Some could be the more typical 3D Vision style of blazing full on sounds, other stuff might be electro influenced full on (some Vibra, Wizzy Noise).
Scorb, RAM, Shift, Scatterbrain etc - I like that stuff just when the sun starts to change the color of the sky, but you cant really see it yet.
Once you start to see peoples faces more clearly, and dawn breaks, then on we go to Wizzy Noise, Vibra and other full on stuff which is still hard edged, but not that heavy on the psychedelia (abstract noises found in all dark psy).
So, for me, for an outside festival or 24/7 thing - I really feel the sound must follow the vision. The sun will usually be the most important factor there.
However, bad or cloudy weather may mean that you will linger in twillight longer than expected

exactly if the music and vision feel syncronizesd it jus enhances the experince and that's y a gud and inteligent dj is required
p.s. @krell i wud really like let myself loose at ur sets

yes agree. twilight is for me a very important part of the event and its a transition, in music and in vision so toguether they create a unique vibe. to make that transition i find that going to dark and as the sky beggins to appear i prefer introducing something more psychedelic and twisted with a tempo from 142-146. My favorite "Twilight" artist is at the moment Pitch Hickers. (haha they have a nice tune callled twilight zone!). Scorb is also a good one, well there so many!

well in my part of the world people r calling pitchhikers and brethren twilight psy.
but yea pitch hikers is a great definition of twilight because it always either starts out nice and full-on and goes nighttime. |

Welll twilight was always there .. its funny people people are just getting to know of its existence.
Chromatone i'd say play when the sun is rising .. it just blends perfectly with the rising sun .

Well - Actually, that set was supposed to be called "Twillight Dreams" - and not "Twillight" - but I fucked it up when I uploaded it. Trackname vs Id tag
It is actually not meant for Twillight as such, but more as a kind of "last stand of full on".
If you can imagine having listened to dark psy during the night time, transforming into melodic psy - and the set before "Twillight" being more soft psy and progressive... Then the set you are talking about picks up the progressive flow and plays back all played genres so far, and scales down to slower progressive near the end... from then on, the tempo should be going downhill...
Its more of a from 7-10 set for the oudoors For when the sun has just come up (after twillight really).
I know what it looks like, when dreams start and stop - This is, sort of, what the set is about in its title. This is also why it has more than just 1 subgenre in it.
So, its about dreaming and the passing from one dream into another. (One style, into another, the reflection on the past, inside your dreams - as in, the reflection upon the earlier music experienced, inside a dj set). Ive been theorizing a lot over effect of memory in regards to track selection.
Its not like anyone is supposed to know, its just for fun Perhaps the mind will remember the mechanics... perhaps it works, perhaps not Dreams are so psychedelic
This weekend i played a set which was aimed towards the transition from night, to day. 0300-0600. Twillight there was around 0330 - 0430, where I played full on stuff like The Commercial Hippies, Hujaboy, Panick, Mungusid, Spectral Skunk, Crystal Sound, Vibra, Wizzy Noise & Elec3 vs Psynina.
But ... I think what the best music to play at the Twillight hours will not only depend on me, but also the event.
If Im playing at an event promoted as a dark psy event, you can expect something darker & more twisted.
So - What does Twillight look like at the event ? or where the set is to be used ?
For me, a genre "Twillight Psy" is not practical, since I will change my mind on what is appropriate at twillight according to the event.
The problem is that the genre name imposes a definition upon the music. Music must be free
I dont really like to call music "morning music" or "night music" either. Since I might be playing it either at night or morning, depending on the event, crowd and myself.
However, there is, for me, something like a night or morning DJ set - Which is a total experience of a selection of tracks
I dont like soft full on when its dark, and I dont like dark psy in the middle of the day. That is, unless it works (no rules but "whatever works works").

for sure...
i like exactly that... i play from dark psy to twilight... i mean... i love this bridge from the dark sounds (like penta) to more melodic (like tracks with melodies from brethren, abomination, etc)... in the midle of the set... is perfect for me tracks from scorb, ram, nrs, digital talk,etc
hard music... with dark sounds... but never bad trips... the ppl need smile when the sun is coming...
an inteligent line up is
dj dark psy
dj dark full on / twilight
dj full on
and yes... for me twilight is like "dark full on" but with more melodies
=)
