Progressive/Minimal/full-on/etc does NOT mean a track is light or dark, it's a musical style, while the light/dark (sunrise/night) is a matter of feeling more than anything else.

OK I also have a few questions on this subject and am glad i didn't have to start a new thread. I know we all say "don't classify music into boundries" and blah blah blah... and more blah... (and this is also another reason why i didn't want to re-bring-this-up). BUT, I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS!! :D

OK, I would nomally call somthing like Toï Doï - Replicant    Psytrance... and somthing like  Cosmosis - Canniboid    Goa! But, now i'm latley thinking more in the lines of Hux Flux and Hallucinogen being Psytrance simply becuase they are PSYCHEDELIC! So, of course Hallucinogen is very Psychedelic trance,  and of course Cosmosis Canniboid is goa, but then where does that leave Toï Doï and Children of the Doc - bionic bong, and other full on trax? Goa or psytrance?

Personally I like calling them psytrance becuase the sound "psytrance" makes sound like your saying Sci trance and Sci is associated with Sci-fi which means science fiction, which usually denotes FUTUREISTIC stories like Star Trek, 5th Element, Blade runner etc...  And Toï Doï - replicant sounds like i'm racing in car suspended in the air by magnets going 500 miles per hour though a city in the late 29th century! Not to mention other awesome beautiful tracks full of Cy(ber)trancy energy!!!!

SO!>?!?

HA I ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION. THANKS FOR YOUR INSIGHT!

YES! I got it. Toï Döï - replicant (which is from blade runner :D!) and children of the doc - impossible vortex... and i'm not going to list all the others that make me crazy...

ARE

CYTRANCE!!!! HEHEHEHEHAHAHAHAHAHEHAHHEAHH!

Yes!!!

sorry i'm listening to Hallucinogen: The lone Deranger for the first time in NON-Mp3 format and i'm Awe-struck.  SHHOWWWOOAA!
hehe pitch = +3.5 :D :D ;) :) =P

plus i had 2 or 3 doctor peppers

ok i'm done with the tangents now! Have a nice day.

oh and your welcome to respond and tell me what you classify Toï ¨Döï - replicant type music as ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshit! no i mean wow. Shit as in a Exclamation. like HOLY SHIT THIS MUSIC IS AWEOSME kind of "shit"

NP: Hallucinogen - Jiggle of the sphinx.cd :)

WHAO!

LOL this fourm is fun

Hallucinogen is IMO too flexible to be defined, since Angelic Particles is 100% goa, while Snarling Black Mabel is psytrance (IMO, some people tell me it's goa, but it's not :)), Beautiful People is much more minimal, Thugs in Tye Dye is much more aggressive and techy, and I want to see someone try to define Juggle of the Sphinx :)

What I'm trying to say here is that the whole "definitions in trance" concept only goes so far, and instead of saying "I like goa best" or something like that, people shouldn't limit themselves to a definition.

Goa IMO is the spirit of the track...

but technically, it's the idea that the power can come from the melodies, that the emotion of the track is what takes it forward, and that the music just keeps on changing and changing and stuffed full of different melodies/ideas throughout the track.

But first and foremost, it's the spirit of the track :)

Well me and my friends always have long and hot discussions about styles of electronic music.  but it hasnt come to blood yet.

I have just found a site
http://www.ishkur.com/features/music/guide.htm

i dont think its 100% correct, but it's only supposed to be this guy's point of view, so its ok.

Buttrock...dream...break...

This guy is confused. Buttrock firstly is a term he just made up. The track isn't but the word "buttrock" this guy doens't have much knowlege of goa. There isn't a whole feild of goa like he says that has heavy metal sounds... there are a few artists. Dream... is simply club trance... dream is another he made up... your not a "PUSSY" if you listen to it either... (?)... Break isn't trance.. Breaks are breaks and go in the break beat section along with jungle, and drum and bass. Nu NRG is goes in the house section.

Damn this guy is reallllly confused.. ok here we go again.. "death" isn't known as trance either.. It sounds allot like hardcore becuase it goes in the hardcore section. It's known as "Scarecore" or "terrorcore". Man for a guy with such a cocky attitude he doesn't know shit about music. Id say trancecore should go in the trance section too, but that isn't there... its in hardcore oh. That would go both places in my opinion.

Ok.. Just listen to syles other than trance. Then you'll know what music that is not trance sounds like.

for example house music. stuff they play at the rave parties. Usually very repetitive loud bouncy bass very very annoying and hurts your ears. Good music to dance to if your... imagining that your a puppet in a mental institution.

However,  new "psy trance" sounds VERY VERY much like house music. The Delta - pop first time I heard this I thought it was house, but now I know people call it psytrance... whatever. I say if it sounds like house, it's house. And lately everyone is making house... and calling it psy. MFG makes psy and goa X-dream makes psy...Nomad makes house. If you like this kind of music check house lables... and go raving...it sounds exactly the same. Hard House and NRG are really the only good kinds of house IMHO if you want good house check Nukleuz, tidy trax, tripoli, tinrib, and lotek.

cant we just accept a style- trance, house, drum and bass...
and let the music speak for itself? there are adjectives yes, but these are not whats important

Ahh man, I second every word of this!

Defining, is just your own point of view.

Cheers!
