Well to add some news!! Way before what happened this summer in the lebanese club. The first real rave held in lebanon was back in june 2001 where we really did a huge amount of work on the place. We did the deco, brought the sound system and the light, and i can say it was a huge success. Almost a thousand of people came to this party and we all had a great time. But ever since I never had the chance again to play there cause people are short minded and think a lot of the money, almost all the crew got spread and only the few that got the real passion, got allong with it. We'll see what the future will bring us...

P.S: i have a lot of pictures and videos of those parties I'll try to post some of them, but my visual project takes me a lot of time , and i should think of designing a website to display those archives. Keep in touch, i hope showin u what the ARABS are capable of!!! hehehe

Just 2 words about an eventual psyscene in lebanon...
First of all just to inform people who didnt go over there:
its one of the most open country in the middle east,(after Israel maybe) but stilll ppl overthere are very opened to any kind of music, and lebanese ppl LOooooVE to MAKE music, u should go and see its crazy. And btw ppl over there listen to Trance and they sure like it!! Dj Sasha whent there like 2month ago it was crazy and he is quite knowned over there. SO imagine a Psy party!!!!
The point is that Psy trance needs a little more time, and in fact ppl over there should have Acces to PSY trance Music... and trust me,it will spread really quickly( small country of 3.5M,and ppl talk alot!!:))
Bug System i love u!!!! Continue introducing PSY in lebanon, one day we will party with ISRAEL!!
And if i could help you in any way.... mat khaff
Yalla cyaa

I'll give some info about Turkish scene. altough there seems to be some artists coming these past few months like infected mushroom, astral projection, astrix, talamasca, its really not well organized parties. the parties take place in indoor places which are really unsuitable for psy trance parties.
there are really places suitable for outdoor nature parties but I havent heard of one taken place. The situation may not be ready for nature parties yet as getting permission may be hard.
the crowd coming to the parties are generally club oriented people involved in house music. this is because in front of the psytrance artists, a house dj is put. this is understandable as if it werent the case, there would be probably 10-20 people coming to the parties. also because of this club oriented crowd, the music played is not anywere near satisfaction for those who really like psytrance. this way, the part of the crowd who comes for listening to real psytrance are generally alienated as the shows are not oriented towards them. dont know where this would lead as speaking of myself, I dont feel anymore excitement when for example am told infected mushroom is coming here again in march. I know I will have a big disappointment, so I rather stay at home and listen at home with friends.
I cant really point out a solution. even if emerging local artists who could be put infront of the main artists come up, and even if nice places for location are chosen, there will be so little people coming that the organizers and dj's will not get the amount of money they do now.
and thanks for the bringing up the question.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

in the parties in Lebanon do people use chemicals?
how do people(esp' women) dress ?
what do the local Authorities(political and religious) think or say about it...
Helen as u must know there is a lot going on between muslims and jews in Israel...DUH!!!! weather it is Israelis or Palastinians...the combination of drugs and situations that are not commen for people(like women dressed in a certain way etc.) just doesnt work out and there are many prob'...i must add that there is allso a big amount of fear(on both sides) which just makes it impossible for people to "get together" in the way we all know it in the morning out in nature,i assume that the fact that Clubs and parties were attacked by teror groups wont allow some people to relax and enjoy them selfs...and lets not talk about some one that gets a paranoia attack while lets say.....on ACID(BAAAAAAAAD TRIP)
any way i feel this issue is a bit too political and i really think it can cause many people a major discomfort so...should we drop it???
have a nice TRIP.

Thanx everybody for taking part in this thread. lt is probably the most sensitive and mature thread that l've read in this forum.
l have met in a party a guy from lebanon, who is half italian and comes to our etnicanet events and promised that soon we shall visit. what an excitement!!!!!!
Please let me mention that one of the most beautiful and psychedelic moment in my long party history was in Celebra Brasil a couple of years ago, when an lsraeli(who l know) was dancing and having a great time next to an arab(who i know also) and they were not bothered or threatened from each other at all.
lt was a remarkable moment and a living proof of that
MUSIC BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER AND DROPS SILLY BORDERS....
Thanx again for this thread....           Have a good time.... ALL the time

Ok, So in response to DjNomolos:
Ppl in lebanon as i sayed earlier are very opened minded... and as Bug System said there is 50% of christian in lebanon so it makes it more opened.(i guess)
LoL about chemicals, dont worry its available and quite easy to find... And Women dont dress i dont know how. Thats the problem ppl think that there is huge restrictions over there but its quite normal. And, lived there for 12 years and i didnt heard about a terrorist entering a party and blowing everything out... and id like also to mention that the nightlife in lebanon is quite CRAZY... over there party is a ritual!:) maybe not for psytrance lovers but all other kind of party are available..ppl alwayz want to party.
Search lebanon in google , or just go to www.whatsuplebanon.com just to have a general idea of the country, ull see its not iraq...
So Psy have a place in lebanon.it just need a little bit of time
Anywayz peace out!

i was just answering about the reason people have a bad time in parties with arabs IN ISRAEL(big culture diffrence, terror attacks in Tel Aviv etc.) .
i was never in Lebanon so i really dont know...not about chemicals or how people dress or the reaction of the authorities...i know how things are in Israel and what i see on TV about Lebanon(and we all know how the media showes what it wants too) ...good to hear that things over there are diff' and allso thx for all the good Hash that comes from that side of the border
have a nice TRIP.

This is all really encouraging stuff, a top thread and great, mature discussion. I just want to say 'Keep up the good work' to everyone involved.

Something to think about...
In Northern Ireland in the mid-late '90's there was a real shift in the feelings of young people, much of the sectarian nonsense seemed to die out. Many writers and observers and people who were there at the time attributed this to the fact that Catholic and Protestant kids were meeting E'd up on the same dancefloors and the music and experience were the unifying force.

I have been living in Dubai for the last 5 months and I will comment on the psy trance scene and also the cultural environment more generally.

There is absolutely no psy trance. At ohm records there is a couple of indian doods who have been going to goa for a long time and love psy trance... but to the best of my knowledge there has never been a psy trance party (its in the making though). In retrospect, the indian population (at least 35% of the people in Dubai) perhaps will help this movement develop but it will take some time.

Beyond psy trance, there is no trance, period. only dj point and dj kv play trance and that leans more towards the dutch melodic side, not even close to dark psy... musically though, there is very little culture though... for example, the best sound system you can buy here are things like maranz, denon, harman kardon, jbl, mackie... and even though they are decent quality, proper hi fidelity equipment is not available...

radio stations are of four kinds:
1) arabic
2)hindi
3)muslim prayer chants
4) european/american pop chart music with free give-aways and raffles all the time

as you can see there is ZERO variety ...

the way i see it is: Dubai has only been what it is for the last 30 years when they discovered they had petroleum... as the manipulate prices with opec they have made a killing on this black gold and thus much of the local population works with the government at a very leisurly non-competitive pace thus allowing for slowness, innefficiency, and corruption....

this in turn, reflects upon the level of entertainment.... there is no fight for freedom because people just accept the situation... smilarly the fight for music is minimal and complacency rules the emirate...

So at least in Dubai there is no exposure to psy trance... We will start it though, and I already have a list of at least 10 people who will come party.. for the first time.... the rest of the emirates : Sharjah (you cant wear shorts), ajman ( a dump) ras al khaiman, fujeirah, abu dhabi, and the others im 100% sure there is no psy trance....

That's the story with the United Arab Emirates.... for now....

PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST!!!!

Kaa this is not correct... The first real "rave" was organised in 1996-1997 (i worked on it), and actually, prior to 2001, partying in lebanon was even better (in terms of vibes) than post-2001...

and people, forgive me for bringing this up, but i need to correct that the number of Lebanese living in Lebanon is equaly spread between muslims and christians...           www.LebaneseRavers.com | Raving beyond borders

I guess a few people here could do good by actually read up a little about the culture and religion in Libanon

Each country in the Middleast is very different from eachother and as far I have understood Libanon is quite liberal when it come to womens clothes (similar to Turkey) and freedom of religion. Thats why there's many Christians too.

I would love to come and play in Libanon. Hope it will happen some day

Thanks Handa for your words, tolerance and objectivity to the max as usual would be gr8 to hear you spinning here man!

I just would like to say something about PVD gig that occurred last Saturday (open air beach party)…

Although I am not a big “pure” Trance fan, I went to the party by curiosity mainly. I was amazed by the 8,000 to 9,000 ppl partying there… lots of young ppl, very good vibes, I nearly felt I was in Europe… ppl were smiling, happy… this is the new Lebanese generation….

We had a guy from the UK who is giving a seminar in Lebanon and staying for 2 weeks… Well the guy came with us, partied, and felt at home actually as a party is a party, no matter where…

I mean I don’t know if you ppl realize what our “clubbing/raving/partying” generation has done so far and yet, much more to come…. the impact of our global movement is tremendous and we should all be proud of our achievements so far

Indeed and broadly speaking, all over the globe, the mentioned generation talks the same language, has the same beliefs (PLUR etc), the same mentality when it comes to partying, no matter what the religion and the country of origin are etc.

We are bounded by the same passion, music, and by the same objective, peace and tolerence…

Please don’t let stereotyped images and propaganda lead the way… Should we be as genuine as we say we are, it’s up to us to demolish the hatred boundaries and I think we’re all doing a great job… A simple example is this topic on this particular forum…

PEACE AND CHEERZ!

I want to tell a little story I experienced some years ago.

In 1997 i played in Israel at some party. I cant exactly rememeber where it was anymore.

The crowd was mixed 70% Israeli and 30% Arabic. I guess it was Israeli Arabs? Well whatever

I was the last DJ to play and before stopping I was told by the organiser to put on a CD so the music did not stop before I went out of the club because as he told me, the Arabs would attack me if the music stopped. Now what actually happened was that i suddently got sorrunded by 4-5 very drug influenced and quite agressive Israelis that wanted to steal my music. Of course I held on to my case with music and actually broke my thumb because it got pulled by them in their attemp to steal the case. The organiser and bouncers did absolutely nothing to help me and I soon realised I was in quite big trouble. To my big surprise some arabs came and supported me and held the Israelis (non violent) back so i could leave in one piece and with my music.

This example is not to blame anyone or point fingers at anyone but just to make an example to the person that mentioned that arabs are "trouble" in parties.

Personally I was and am very thankful to those Arabs that saved me that morning when no Israelis seemed to want to help me.

The world is not that black and white.
