In some places it is already dead.

In L.A. we used to have a party at least once a month with the biggest stars (infected, S.U.N project, X-dream, Astral) , but not any more.

All the good orginizers are gone, and most people got sick of bad parties.

in LA just like in New York they went for the easy buck by making club parties instead of outdoors. How come in San Francisco they can make 2 good parties every weekend and not in LA?           Both teams played hard

don't mistake huge parties with overseas headliners for the whole scene
this widespread chicken little syndrome is starting to irritate me...
no need to be so fatalistic...

Yep, good trance parties have nothing to do with stars, big names and big crowds. They can be there but their definitely not the heart of it all.
My best parties had none of the above.
And good parties for sure have nothing to do with clubs...

C'mon ppl the US is HUGE, you can find you good spot and make great small tribal parties. Be the DJs, be the dancers, be the decorators- pass a hat in the end- you'll have great fun.

I am extremely sorry to hear that Gilles is done with throwing parties...he was a nice guy that worked his ass off, spent countless hours and dollars to help push psytrance in NYC.

That being said, I personally think that the sentiment expressed by so many that trance in the US is dying or going downhill is a complete load of shit.

I remember in 1995 when I was first into the trance scene and looking for parties in the states, there was very little. To put it mildly.
San Francisco and NYC had it going on, but that was IT. There was *maybe* the occasional party in another city in California or the northeast, but absolutely nothing in between (and there is a LOT of cities and space in between). Trust me, I spent many many hours looking unsuccessfully until I finally gave up and started making my own damn parties.

Look at it now. You have parties all over the country....Texas, the northwest (Seattle/Portland), Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, Boston, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Rhode Island, Maryland, Mississippi, Louisiana, etc. I know I have left several areas out.

And of course San Francisco has as strong a community as ever and it's not exactly like ALL parties in NYC have stopped either....there are just not 2-3 per month with the big names (cry me a friggin' river:)). For every city that has a temporary slow-down in their psytrance scene such as LA, you see 3-4 more pop up in another part of the country.

Another facet....

5-7 years ago, there were virtually no psytrance labels in the states (aside from maybe a couple that put out one or two releases that got no notice). Now there are several labels releasing music that is internationally acclaimed. I guarantee you will see 2-3 more like these come around in the 12 months. I am also seeing more and more american artists pop up on comps in other continents.

Just because one very prominent party organizer in one corner of the country stops throwing parties doesn't say a damn thing about anything in the other 99.5% of the country. The US is HUGE. Don't expect psytrance to catch on like a wildfire. That is the surest way to see it implode upon itself. Just because there is no Voov or huge 5000+ parties with international names all the time doesn't mean that there aren't countless smaller community-based parties every weekend all over the country.

Not everybody can make parties like Synthetic Sadhus did....it took a lot of money and connections. But just about anybody can gather some friends, a small sound system, and jam out in somebody's living room or in the woods. THAT is the foundation of a psytrance community, not 1000+ people and Alien Project in an expensive venue.

Heh...ironic I am driven to go off like this when I don't even live in the states anymore.

I don't know about NY, but I do know its VERY hard to get a permit for an outdoor party from any local athourity in Los-Angeles county.

Indoor Parties can be nice too, if the place is nice and conferrable. If people will enjoy going to parties again, the scene in L.A. will come back to life very easily.
