Actually, their are quite a lot of hippies around... but i'm afraid that allot of them are not true hippies - they just dress like hippies because it's fashionable/cool.

Well, the trance scene started as some hippies on acid having a good time partying on a beach, then joined by backpackers (hence the big amount of Israelis, since most Israelis under 30 travel as backpackers around the world), and the backpackers brought the music home with them from Goa (which was the Mecca of the trance culture until 1994-5, if you didn't play there yet, you really weren't considered serious... I talked with Zoo-B about that in late 1997, his qoute was "there are big DJs today who haven't even BEEN to goa", nowadays, goa is just another place to get a gig).

The backpackers played it to their friends, and slowly but surely, the trance scene is moving toward more "classic" rave culture.

BUT, saying that the spirit is dead is far from true. There are a lot of beautiful people out there, there is a true ideology for the culture, which is not political (and never was), it's about freedom, it's about fun, and most of all, it's about a good party, with a lot of colorful smiling people enjoying the music, the sunrise and nature.

It may not be as grand as the hippy ideal, but it's smaller, more practical, and basically the modern version of that. Don't expect the 60s to come back to life each party - there were very few artists/DJs/whoever that even lived in the 60s, let alone took a part of it. We're doing our own thing, we're still far from simple hedonists. Most people aren't hippies. But, I think we can be proud of what the trance culture is today, in it's current evolution (a fussion of 60s and rave cultures).           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

So trance culture is raves, blotters & hippies?
For me it's a bit different, I guess. And it's still here, and there are enough raves, blotters & hippies as well, I believe.           ---------------------------------------------
