i agree lucidpicnic, planet in peace is a lovely idea. . .and i think that is what psytrance stands for.

when i said trance leaves politics at the door i was referring to the petty squabbling between those in charge of "nation-states".           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

Yes very nice point lucidpicnic. I see your on the path of Terence Mckenna. Shpongle, Entheogenic use samples of his voice often. maybe not direct quotes on politics, but it can be the closest it comes. or the spacetime continuum "alien dreamtime" record, where he discussed a lot of interesting subjects.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

This is also what I meant.           "One nation under a groove".

spare me.. i listen to music to relax!

althought that is not a very constructive answer to the original question (sorry )

i think trance music _is_ vaguely political because of its strong associations with the alternative / hippy scene.. however this is very take it or leave it stuff on the whole (i am glad to report) but that is just the ambient politics of the people who tend to be around the scene and not the music itself...          >>love will tear us apart...<<

But where do we stand as a community on politics?

Wouldn't it just lead to unnessecairy fractions?

Stress only exists in politics because it relates to issues that need to be resolved. Instead of avoiding uncomfortable subjects we would do ourselves a favour by trying to resolve things and coming to agreement about them - accepting our differences (NOT just 'tolerating' them) where no compromise can be found.

This requires honesty, intergrity and a willingness to be persuaded of other points of view; can you really say this description applies to the leaders of your country? Or even yourself?

When you defend my right to hold the opinions I have, as much as I defend yours - no matter how different they may be - there can be no arguments.

For answering this we need first to define politics and trance- Abatawa, please do that, then we can discuss your question, which is very interesting, properly.

Than we can also discuss the No Politics policy of this forum.           ---------------------------------------------

sharar do you want me to seperatly define what I mean by "politics" and "trance" seperatly, or do you want me to define what I meant by "politics and trance" as a whole(to redefine my question)
kinda complicated but got confused on your question in what you want me to define.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

well I'll answer what I understood. It is maybe wrong to call it politics, as what I am wondering is the ideological part of the question. If I take one part of a definition of politics, that is "making of a common decision for a group of people" I am interested about whether trance gives out this sort of idea to the crowd. it is of course dependent on how one views trance. there are people who just enjoy the music and stay away from the idea from those who take trance as a culture, a community. like trance bringing people closer to nature, giving a new set of lenses to view the world.
there are some artists appliying a religious view to trance, focusing on shiva, or taking it as shamanic community. artists like goa gil are for me deeply involved, seeing themselves as a sort of shaman when they are dj'ing.
hope this is more explanatory.

trance is free way of life while politics it's strong formulas so don't see any connection

I can only repeat myself again here

When you go to parties like Earthdance ect. you are clearly stating a Political message. So yes trance is indeed political in many different ways. Isen't it also Political to say that something is NOT political?
And as long as there's different people from different places, religions, views of live ect... Then theres Just as many political views..... Also in our little scene.... And some dance to have a good time away form their daily lives, some dance because they believe they meet like minded people at the dance floor, some dance because they say to hell with the establishment ec5t. ect. ect.. It's all political.... And liek it or not... Everything in life is Political one way or the other
