do you think that psytrance music involves a political idea/theme in it? Or is it apolitical?
this question came up to me as in various psytrance festivals I've been to, there were certain people which put posters with political messages on their tents.
since there is no artist that I know of that gives political messages on stage(in respect to other music genres which this may take place) or not many samples that I know of that involves a political theme, is it impossible for trance to get a political idea out to the crowd.
If it does not involve a political theme do you think that it should? or would this alienate and divide the trance lovers who are so much divided anyway.
on the other hand, should it be ignorent of the events that take place in the world and just be a gathering for dance and trance?
just wanted to hear some views.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

might be that some artists refuse to play in some countries but political messages? i don't think so. other than some sort of freedom thingy that is..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Well I am not afraid to say what I think and believe...

People that always try to be "political correct" are just "puppets in a string". So if you choose to call me "furiously" then you haven't understood a thing about democracy and freeedom of speach Pavel

Anyway I am not about to be dragged into this subject, as someone would like me to, since most of you cant handle when someone dont agree with you And yes the rules are that it's a forum free of politics.... Like it or not.... I dont like it but I accept it

One of the things I like about trance is that it's stubbornly apolitical. It's about bringing down differences and being, to quote Sly Stone "One Nation Under a Groove".

Although maybe that in itself makes it political?

You leave that stuff at the door when you go to a trance party as far as I'm concerned. Politics is the last thing I want to encounter.

Judging by what Chaos Theory posted I don't think it would be a bad idea to remove this thread before it turns nasty... I've restrained my hand now but won't if I see more like that. And that would suck.

Doesn't it say 'no politics' in the guidelines?           "One nation under a groove".

no politics to divide the members. but I'm not asking what view trance music should support or does support. I'm just asking if it is apolitical music. dont immediatly take the question to wrong direction.
but yes if it will lead to a direction where people state what view trance should support, then sorry for the post. remove it.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

Abatwa, interesting, is there some kind of music that is political ?

IMHO, music can't be political, it is people who can make it so. (lyrics, song names, place/ time of performance...etc)           -=Lead System Designer=-

Well I'd just give punk music as an easy example. It is from its roots political, coming out of the dissatisfaction with the current order, involving political lyrics, using music as a tool to get their views to the crowd.
Of course not all punk music involves a political aspect in it and I agree with you on people making it so.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

Most musicians who made political statement no matter how famous the artist were ( just think about Lennon) were terrrible burned.

And in the end it wouldn't make much of a difference, only that the artist would be labeled in a certain category. Politics are always dirty so better stay away from it.

I don't see why a trance artists should stay away from Politics? Isen't it a fact that musicians all over the world have made small and huge changes by political statements and by their actions because they were popular musicians and by that had a audience to appeal to?

Remember Band Aid? That was indeed a Political statement and a good one indeed! It saved lives!

Remember U2 and especially Bono? He has done a lot good especially when it come to convince politicans to reduce 3rd world debts...

I am all for political statements in music and now that we mention it.... Isen't it a political stament to make parties to support Tibet? Indeed it is And you all take part of it activly when you go to those beneficial parties
So by going to parties like Earthdance you all become involved in politics

There's nothing wrong with politics in music. Just remember to respect other people's political or non- political views... As long as they dont harm other people that is.

it seems to me that thusfar the only political statement trance has made is leave it at the door and dance.

but. . .

i think it would not neccessarily be a bad thing if some artists would start sending messages. that is of course if it pleases everyone in our tribe. which might be difficult considering its global nature. it might reopen some deep rifts btwn groups of ppl that as far as im concerned should be shut closed by the trance dance. so i guess its complicated. . .like everything else.           ein chadash tachat hashemesh. there is nothing new under the sun. --kohelet.

i think psytrance has politics from it's roots...
the term psychedelic...

for example;as an artist my political view is simply comes from that root.i believe in if plant-human symbiosis can be set up,we'll have a planet in peace.now we are simply afraid to talk about what we believe.YES offence to isratrance!you can't take ideas,thinking...

i think psytrance related musics simply based on this political view.at least at the start.
and now people try to take out that politics from our music.i think that is wrong.

well maybe you don't believe in that psychedelic politics and community,allright..that is normal...but not to talk about politics..that is totally wrong!
