how is it for a small time d.j playing for a crowd of about 50-60 people max .. ?
ive got a fairly solid laptop that wont pack up, and even if it does, i have a cd player playing on another channel all the time, so i can fade into that and restart the computer ..

is traktor good ? has anyone used it ? i find it pretty easy to use, but iv e been told that no d.j worth anything would use a computer to play a set .. ive used cdj-100's, but honestly, i cant afford that much right now ..

also, if anyone is familiar with traktor, then any tips ?           paagal power ..

I'm no DJ, but Traktor is great, really. You can mix easily and smoothly using it (assuming your CPU is powerful enough).
Traktor has automatic BPM matching and faders, EQ, flexible looping and cue capabilities and much more.

A tip: Consider buying an audio card for your laptop, such as the Layla24 laptop, in order to get stable performance and small latency(which is really important when you're mixing live). Another important thing for live mixing using Traktor is a midi controller, 'cause turning knobs with a mouse or even with a keyboard (which is a possibility in Traktor) is no fun at all.

for smaller crowd is good but less proffesional then the 'real thing' like pioneer cdj's.
its cool to play with tracktor, easy to move arrounf with your tracks in 1 place, and quite easy.

you can get the BPM higher and lower then the original BPM.
another thing u got there is the Master BPM - all tracks will fit into the BPM you decided b4 you start Playing.           Don't Let Yourself Get Attached To Anything

traktor is great fun, admitted .. its massive fun to sit at home with a bunch of friends and screw around with the tracks , the only problem lies in stability with a crowd, and also, just the fell of things .. psytom is right when he says ts no fun to use a keyboard or a mouse !

traktor allows you to change bpm's of tracks, set it to a specific bpm, sync tracks together with the greatest of ease, and mix together using loops, along with a wonderful eq ..

hehe .. ure right .. ! it sounds like its taken straight from a traktor advertisment !!

to sound a little less like an ad ..

just finished half an hour, throwing the slider btwn boom shankar and alive - skazi .. , mixed with the opening sample of pura vida, definitely the best session ive had with the software yet !! talk about some amazing fun ..

IS THAT WHAT THAT IS ? - >BOOM SHANKAR -> WHAT TIME ARE YOU PLANNING TO TAKE OFF !!!!!!

but id still love a couple of cd-j 100's to fool around with .. !!! not much beats those

It's great, but using "autosync" or things like that won't earn any respect (at least not from me)

Some tool like this: http://www.behringer.com/BCD2000/index.cfm?lang=ENG could be useful..

honestly beatmatching is something I have no problem having the computer do automatically--as long as you know how to do it by hand if the computer fails!

There's nothing artistic you can do about beatmatching--either you succeed at it or you fail.

As for DJing software, I like virtual DJ better than traktor for the sole reason that it overlays the waveforms of the two tracks instead of showing them side by side, which makes it so you can beatmatch visually and not have to do it by ear (I can beatmatch by ear but not very well so I prefer to have a visual aid)

like CD players or Vinyl if you know what you are doing you can create great sets!

Traktor is a very good tool for any level DJ, it can be used at home, in the forest or in a club!

Cheers           "....or is it???"
