CD Players are the ideal solution if you want to be a pro dj there is no two ways to it.

Traktor, VDJ both will work well for your application.
With them you have two option
First get a controller based mixer like the Behringer BCD3000 etc. and you get most of your traktor controls on hardware.

The better option is you buy something like a Numark DJio or Echo Indigo DJ and use a regular mixer in junction.
In this setup you time/cue your tracks in VDJ. With Asio drivers latency should be good enough. You Eq on the mixer with all the knobs/faders in your hand its much easier.

Presently i have Vdj with a behringer DJX700 i plan to buy a numark Djio soon to make this package complete.           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

What an old thread.

I have no problem with laptop djing, I just really don't like doing it myself. I feel it takes away a lot of the "DJing" aspect of actually DJing. I like to be in complete control over what is happening with the mix rather than trusting a computer to do it for me.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Mixing on software definitely takes out the djing factor...
Though i use Vdj for preparing my sets at home!

ps:is there any difference between Vdj n Traktor??

yes, you can use traktor side by side with your decks, just like serato so it doesnt take out the djing factor..

All you have to do is find the first kick, then sync the track. The "DJing" part I was talking about involves lining up the tracks manually.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

doh! have you ever heard of serato or traktor scratch? Play your music like you always did on your favourite decks, cd or turntables, but use your computer instead of your 20 kilo cd case for carrying your music..

Traktor DJ Studio 3.2 is just right for me ...

Highly Recommended !

You can do a whole lot even if you don't have an additional soundcard to prelisten ... The Sync function ... loop sets ... channel effects ... and many other customizable options !

i really dont think that to play with traktor is less professional.

what counts in the end you all know...

imagine...you have a brilliant selector...but he is not perfect mixer...he has traktor that can help him get rid of stress, synchronizing, looping, helping him to mix better and focus on what really matters MUSIC

on the other hand you have a dj that mixes perfectly but his feeling for music=0000000,0000000

which one do you prefer?

I am currently an avid Traktor user. However im currently using it for commercial music.

It's quite flexible and have a variety of effects. In order to exploit it, keyboard mapping is a must and it would be even better if you have a MIDI controller.

Youtube carries laods of Traktor related videos. Just search for Traktor.           Keep The Passion Alive!

have been mixing for severall years now, with cds, mini discs, cassettes, almost every format that is out there, today i use traktor, with an external mixer, ecler nuo 3, I split and use traktor as if it would be two cd players and mix on the external mixer....and for me it has great advantage, because if you have good tools you can perform better, and getting to a party to find out that you have to play with toy mixers and stuff like that is depressing.....so now a days i travel with my laptop (which by the way is more functional than two cd players) and an external mixer an ecler nuo 3 and that way i am always secure that i have a proper setup to play the way i want. So basically this is a threat that always will go on and on, and every1 should find their own way to perform as good as they can....if its with cdplayers, vinyl or laptop....

Exactly it give you best of both worlds. I use virtual dj with a Behringer DJX700.

Do you use a midi interface or two sound cards to retrieve separate channels on traktor? which interface ?           "Whoever said the best things in life are free... obviously grew their own bud"

Now is the VCI-100 and MacBook.
