Well, it does matter... Where do people get all this unreleased tracks??? Do artists give their unreleased tracks just like that??? And how come almost everyone can get unreleased stuff if he wants it??? That's why it's important... Because if something is UNreleased, then the artist doesn't want it to be released...

in former times i was looking for unreleased tracks like a fool who wants to be up to date all the time.
i don't care anymore, i opened my eyes. sooner or later you will be able to listen to the great tracks anyway, and now i am relaxed, listening to actual stuff and - it is the same feeling. new tracks for oneself are still great if you like them, no matter in which period of time.

You know, just for a joke, i will change a name of some unpopular and bad track to a track of Infected Mushroom, and i'll give it a name, that noone ever heard of, and then i'll put it in Soulseek and in Kazaa, and i'll share it with everyone. And i can bet that people will download it and say that it's a masterpiece. That's life...

unreleased stuff has value: it reflects the state of the art in a more continuous fashion than releases do. good djs have easy access to this stuff and play it out of a genuine desire to push the boundaries.

0fcourse there is smth exotic about unreleased track, and i agree with florin. though it's much more rare in the psy=scence cause it's not mainstream anyway, and all the lables are relativly small...           "The Blues is'nt about making you feel better. It's about making others feel worse, and make a few bucks while you're at it." - "Bleeding gums" Murphey.

To tell you the truth, as a dj, playing a diffrent kind of dj set than other dj`s is a way to show you`re uniquness. Unreleased tracks help you in that way. If everybody had the same compilations and the same albums I am sure the whole party crowd would get bored. thats when a dj with a few unreleased tracks can stand out. Give the crowd something they have never heard of. thats my opinion. Good music is good music, unreleased or released, but when i go to a party i dont wanna hear music that i can hear at home.

Its a hard issue, Unreleased music, since if u compare it to the 'normal' music bizz, no radio jokey will ever dream of playing a new unreleased (and illegal) Madonna song - he will be committing a legal suicide.
But in our musical scene it is possible due to the nature of it: we r used to MD/DAT exchange, and the net only makes it easier.

We use unreleased music to promote it, either by sending it to other labels (for licencing) and distributors (for publishing of a new album or selling), or by playing it in parties so ppl can hear whats comming on.
It sometime takes a while until a track can be released: it might be a part of compilation that is not yet full and it needs to wait along with the other collected material, or it might be a part of an artist album, and completing one can take sometime a whole year.
Of course that playing Unreleased material is attractive, since there is some competition in the scene, but a good track is a good track, no matter what it's status is.
Sometime there is a very good track that is released and becomes a major hit, and then its a bit of a problem to play (like hearing 3 times in a party the same Astrix track...). it becomes 'kitchy' very fast (I can still remember Hux Flux - Idiot being played in EVERY party - it became a 'DJ useless' track a wheek after its release...).
And there is also Hikari's point of 'running ahead of the herd' - DJs try to innovate and give fresh sounds to the crowd, and unreleased music is a good way to keep ahead. But it shouldnt take all the place of released music - a lot of effort has been put into publishing the music for everybody to get, and it should recieve its respect (if its good, anyway).

Cheers,
Auspexx

I have a friend who is making music at the moment but not quite good enough to get released. It is good for me cos I get to play unique tunes which I know no-one else will have and he gets to hear his tunes played out and see the crowd reaction and adjust the tunes if he needs to. I like his tunes and I'm not just doing it as a favour to him. It's good for both of us and the people dancing seem to like it too. Also, with all the DJ's looking to play the newest tunes and the latest unreleaseds then I can get away with playing all the wicked older stuff that people still love but no-one plays anymore.

pls not forget that there are many very nice tracks that have been staying unreleased til now!! so an unreleased track has not to be bad...

i've been collecting unreleased too, but i'm not looking for it anymore...sometimes i get an unreleased track from a friend, but it's not the usual trading thingy:=))
unrlsd, or not is not a question....a track has to be GOOD to be good....not to be unreleased
