Thx Atropa, Review-wise the p22a's seem to kick dynaudio bm6a's ass, but listening to some ppl and reading forums it seems the Adam are also lacking some lowend...
Let's see if we can find a shop which has both models and do an A-B comparison...

You shouldn't have any low end problems with the P22, especially when comparing to the BM5.
Try the Adam S2 - supposedly exceeds the BM6 in every field.

i reckon the correct compare is bm6a with adam p11a
for adam p22a i would compare with hmm bm15a , or atleast bm6a+sub.
now another Q
when i TURN ON my monitors (bm6a) the tweeter units not working. untill i play some pritty loud sound to 'open' them.. normal ?
what about turn it off/on at all ? what ur opinion on leave it open 3-4 days in a row ? or weeks ?

strange i don t think it s normal ,for the p 22 vs bm6a ,they have more low end and it s cleaner so maybe it s sound a bit tiny for some people,it go lower than the bm6a but the reponse to the transient is maybe not as fast in this area(i dont know how to say exactly...but it s maybe cause of the size of the woofer, bigger so not as fast or need more level ... maybe i don t use them loud enought but it s not really a problem when you know them )the adam seems to work better with untreated rooms.(maybe cause the dyns have the event behind) they have really different sound so it s easy to choose between these 2 the one you like the most. |

Nope, that's not normal at all! Does this happen with both of the monitors? I think you might have a faulty pair..

I want to get some active monitors, probably something like the samson rubicon 6a, KRK RP6 or Alesis m1 active mkII but was wondering how people have gone connecting these straight to an mbox2 mini? |

Is there a quallity difference when i buy for example the dynaudio bm5a in the passive version?
why is everybody buying active monitors?
i have a kenwood amplifer (not the best but does its job well for more than 10 years without any problems)
and does i lose a little bit of quallity when the sound runs through him instead of using active monitors? |

I remember the answer to this question, it's somewhere in the previous 14 pages of this thread..
Basically, manufacturers make a each model of speakers (passive) for each amplifier. So if you have the right monitors with the right amp, there's no problem.
Active speakers have built-in amps, and that amp is specific for that monitor so you cant make the wrong setup (unless you unmount your monitor and replace the amp, but you have to be really stoned to do that).
Every amp is different and every speaker responds differently for each amp.
And with active monitors, you don't need an amp, so theres less equipments in your studio (I can think of over 20 reasons why thats good!).
Active monitors are more expensive than passive ones, but they are worth it.

Hi...Wouldnt good quality (good production) sound better on Studio Monitors as compared to HiFi speakers??..Also..with HiFi speakers you need a good amp!!..and a good amp and speakers set costs atleast 3 times the amount!

on hifi you have less detail so you don t hear mixing mistake.in my experience with the adam and bm6a if the production is very good it ll sound better on monitors, but there is not a lot of tracks like that in pystrance. |

The reason the bass on the tunes you listened through the HR824s sounded "uncontrollable and sloppy", is because it really was.
HR824s are not hi-fi speakers, they are studio monitors that show you what really happens in your mixes. I have been using the HR824s day in/day out for the last 4 years and once you get to know their sound (just like any other speaker really), you get mixes that translate well over pretty much anything (and most importantly PAs).
I compared the HR824s with the Dyna BM6As at the time I bought them, and although the BM6As sounded "nicer", I thought they flattered the sound too much, not to mention that the Mackies pissed all over the BM6As on the deep low end.
The problem with the HR824s is that they are "demanding" monitors. You need a big room, preferably with some bass traps, as the flat down to 37hz response is more likely to cause more problems, than help you get better sounding mixes. But if you have a nice room, then you get to hear what really happens in the deep end and sort things out.
Anyway, I don't think it s a fair to compare the BM5s to the HR824s. HR624s yes, but the HR824s are in a different league and price range all together.
The HR824s MK2 just came out and they are £100 cheaper than the new BM6As

If I was going to get Dynas over the HR824s, I would get the BM15As. |

im not getting into a debate here.. i dont like mackies and i will never do. they sound like bass boxes to boom and bassy.
i have bm5a and they are indeed lighter in bass than the mackies. but i have worked alot of time with the 624 and they suck more than the 824 cos of that uncontrollable bass.
i thought that the 824 would be better but not.
u have them and u support them i had the 624 and i hated them. i like dynaudios and adams and events and many more other brands and can deffinately mix on them but not the mackie.
i dont want a speaker that takes me 6 months to get to know them.. that means that the speaker isnt translating the mixes correctly.
the first time o got the bm5a in the studio i did a mix on them and it was everywhere exactly like i thought it would be.. that means that the monitor is doing what i payed for.
