basically i think that u can forgive any firewire with PC...or maybe through a PCMCIA or ExpressCard.
I do have Presonus Firebox with macbook and it works very fine since i plugged it for the first time. Now a friend of mine has one too but with a laptop PC : huge problems of sync, crashes, shit like that.
I think it is almost the same with all firewire-based interfaces

I am using it with this:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=277548

it works perfectly fine with my Viao and Fireface 400.

The only problem is that the card doesn't sit firmly enough in the laptop's slot, and can be detachted mechanically by accident, i.e when you hit it slightly. Maybe other card are better, but haven't tested them yet.           -------------------------------------------------

It's time for me to buy a new laptop sound card, my last one just died on me (Edirol UA-25).

I honestly don't trust firewire, due to playing outdoors a lot and having lots of issues with the firewire series of M-Audio (I had the 18/14, the 410, and the audiofile) (I got the cardbus, but it still doesn't power the card) so I would prefer one that is usb or pci cardbus is cool too. However I'm on a limited budget for the time being, so it needs to be under $300 US.

Can anyone recommend a good card with multiple outs, and at least one set of record ins? I've read a lot of the pages here, and it still doesn't seem to provide enough info for my particular need.

Also, I'm on pc... trying to save for a macbook, but that takes a lot of time and I have shows to play.

I have a strange problem with my EMU 1616... When I use the DSP effects, the latency is huge and it eats loads of the computers CPU ???!!! Am I somehow patching wrong, or what the hell is going on?           Peace and Love, seriously!

I have been told the Mackie d.4pro firewire mixer can be your Audio interface/soundcard. The website says it also. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about this?           AUDIO VIRUS

I would need an advise....

After reading and talking to some people i`ve decided to get an Emu404....so far so good!!!! Any one can advise if the PCI version is better than the USB?

Also, this soundcard/interface will allow me to plug in my synth with no major problems? Im talking about a Xio synth....

Thanks in advance for the help....

infact with xiosynth you wouldnt need an additional interface at all, as it has its own... with another inputs for extra synth or guitar etcc
anyway the xiosynth is a good choice from what ive heard and the audio functions seem usable enough (when compared to the 0404 usb)           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

So you are saying that the interface in the synth is actually better than the Emu404????

And interms of the emu404 do you know which one is better ( the internal or the external)?

the internal PCI is always gonna be better in performance, quality in sound is the same.

the emu s coverters and preamp may be a tad better, but i dont think its a great difference, specially not for recording the xiosynth and a guitar for example.. in fact it may be a lot messier.           www.soundcloud.com/elektroakustica/sets/downtempo/

Has anyone had any issues with the Motu Ultralite? I think I'm gonna save the cash and buy this one very soon...           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

when i went to a shop to buy one (it was, if i remember well, two years ago or so, and they just were out, so things probably have changed) the seller pointed at two recently sold ultralites that just came back to the shop with problems. so i went for a 828fw.

good you do this check but with no response here, do another check also i would say.

these days i would prefer a good UL over the 828 because i am moving around a lot.
