I am constantly monitoring my kicks frequency response with a graphical equalizer to make sure the frequencies are evenly distributed and stopping in the correct place etc.

I,ve made a kick with stomper (not the same on the other post)and it sounded kinda fat but when i analize the frequencies they go till 4000/4500 ,where should i cut the kicks ,if cut the highs it looses the high part of it and gets kinda mushed ,even so it's the best kick i'v put on any of my songs
and i would really liked it to work |

Cheers, ocelot :]
i'm very pro to the artists who explain their professional "secrets", because they know it's not knowing the technique that will get u anywhere, it is ur creativity and what u do with it...
Thanx, Downloaded and using it

ocelot, nice tut even it doesn't differ that much from the infected one. Using the wave on cubase audio track is pretty cool, because you can control the envelope for each hit. Making kick "drumfills" is easy because you can adjust the envelope hit by hit. I just hope that in cubase you could make "patterns" out of multiple wave hits like with midi data... it would make copying kick patterns much more easier (or is it possible?).
Nice tray icons, btw |

just make a new one- thats what your pro-ducer probably did anyway.
its not that hard. its a sine wave thats been pitch bent over time from high to low "dew" make a sine wave in your audio editor and make it the frequency you want the kick "note" to land on- then pitch bend the beginning- maybe over 6 octaves (thats 3 times of 24 steps a la sound forge pitch bend tool...)for psy or less for a more soft round thuddy sound- to get intense pressure and tightness but with a softer kick just use fade the beginning of the kick in a few samples in your sequencer...i put my kick as audio.with the occasional bit of eq but otherwise no processing and i will happily pit it against any kick in the world for tightness or intensity. its a simple as it gets... of course you can always muddy it up a bit for character...

u can only use an EQ at that stage... The producer who made that kick u stole already processed it to pieces, putting more compression/limiting on it will only destroy it. If ur kick becomes weak when limited it means ur limiting to hard... Use a mastering multiband compressor instead, with a long attack, so the kick-transient can get through unscathed. To keep it sounding clean while boosting u'll have to boost the right frequencies while leaving the odd harmonix unboosted. Also, boost the same harmonix on the bass so it sits well with the kick.

I wonder why most kicks, actually all kicks when using without any FX lack this roomshaking lowend.
Sometimes I'm spending hours just to get the kick right, to get it real deep and pounding but retaining it's crisp edge.
After a while sometimes my kicks become overprocessed and end up, sounding like nothing.
What procedure do you follow to get the kicks sound full? |
