Hi all,
I have spend hundreds of hours trying to make a nice bassline... i think that regarding the sound of it what i have made so far it is fairly ok but the problem i am always running to is the groove of the bassline... it seems that i cant get it to groove correctly from the synth in the first place...
I would not like to resort to sampling and yet because i think that there must be a way making it through logic and the synth..also dont want to use sidechaining until i get a proper groove.
Please have a listen to the sample i have made... put it to loop because it is really small.. and any comments or advice on how to make it groove and "cruise normaly" would be really appreciated.

first bring the bassline one octave down, its to high.
second the eq it wrong, it sounds nasal, try to lower 3db at 1-1.5 khz, add 2-3 db at 240hz.
third, the kick is to high, and the attack is fucked up, it looks like there is a low frequency interfering with the kicks attack.either this kick was riped from some track or it was processed with something that fucked up the attack, it sounds to dull.

Yes indeed you are right, there is some modulation going on in the kick waveform but it was sounding ok in my room... it was ripped from a track so the moral of the story is never do it because there is usually phasing in it...
I have tried your advice and it makes sence.. i still cannot make it gallop correctly though... I am thinking that it might be a problem with velocity... I have put the velocity to control the oscilators volume on the synth and sounds much better but not exactly where i want to go... any more ideas? |

Please have a listen.. anymore ideas or somthing to correct?
Kick is made with Bazzism2 and sampled, bass here is made with cronox, very short notes (< then 1/64..)

what do you mean with light?
not enough low end?
there is an fulteq EQ with 60hz boosted ~1.5db and 100hz ~2.5db... should be enough |

Trilogy is full of good basslines.
Experiment! music doesn't make himself, you have to listen and make it! |

Sorry that it probably does not help you very much...but experimenting, and listning to ref. songs is the only way. (and not copy paste!) |

Yea i know. i think Once you get a bass sound that is close to what you want, adding quadrafuzz to phat it up always helps, then maybe bounce it and run it through a sampler for more precise tweaking. And sidechaining if necessary. I was just wondering if anyone could share there experience of getting a killer bassline from Trilogy. |

Trilogy and in general ROMplers that have samples from the likes of Minimoog, don't need any phatening up what so ever. Before you start adding quadrafuzz, maxbass...etc, get a nice kick and spend some time listening and mixing the kick and bass together.
From my experience, minimoog samples are too phat too start with.

I put saturators and distortion on trilogy, used properly can sound really crazy.
heres something I did in Operator, it's using FM and i"m not exactly sure how I made it.

In my experience, just adding Quadrafuzz with standard settings, no tweaking to Trilogy definitely adds some character and fattens up the sound.
Charles7 : try Juno 60 Saw Wave and tweak the settings a bit along with your kick. You will get good results quite fast.
