fuzzikitten: thanks for the tips. I will def try to check MiniMonsta when I get a chance. I gave up with audiorealism and tau. I have started working very hard to get a good deep progressive house baseline using Z3ta+ and im starting to get pretty happy with it. I used a multisaw for the waveform, it sounds warm and powerful, its like using the same sound layered I guess. Im experimenting now with a second waveform acting as FM to give it some more agressiveness. Its hard to control but its working somehwat I think. Also, I noticed that Triangles tend to give a very nice sub sound. |

bass is really not the whole story !!!
infected don't know nothing about bassline, and they sold gold with bp empire. bp empire has nothing to do with bassline.
nowadays infected fell into the bassline issue, and their music sucks. they are just another wannabe group for me these days.
bassline is really not such a big deal.
work with ur melodies, then you will know what kind of sound u need in ur bass.
don't be a lamer and base all ur music on the bassline, because u will find urself uninspired very fast and it will be hard to get back ur inpiration later on.
description for music = few instruments fit well together in harmony.

hi i'm new to all this but was wondering , i have been writing some tunes and have noticed when i write and listen to my tracks in studio(on studio monitors) the bassline sounds fine and clear but when i go to listen to it on headphones bassline sounds pritty bad and not very clear .is there a trick /frequency (compression maybe) that i can use to correct this or is this something that is corrected with mastering ? any help would be greatly appreciated .i'm using logic and bass synth esm, writting bass notes as 1/16th , with very little eq .
how do you
get the big fat sounding clear destinct bass ?
thnx |

Do you use the same eqs and effects which you use on the kick to get a nice solid bass + kick or can one do it another way?
It works but I just wanted to hear your opinions. |

@Fugga,
this is a very common dilemma!
All I can tell you from my side is that the sounds need to be mainly clear on your monitors (if u have good monitors).
The sounds at a festival will be heard on speakers and not on headphones so I would sort of recommend not to use headphones.
Sometimes I use head phones at noght when everyone else at home is aslpeep not to disturb them but in the morning when i turn the music on it sounds completely different then on headphones so sometimes I end fricking my track because of this.
In my opinion headphones are good for delicate lines so to eleiminate all cracklings and freuqncies you don't like but not on bassline

hey neville thanks for the responce , i know its not the best way to do a mix by listening on headphones, but i like to listen to my final mixes on headphones so i can hear all sounds and suss out if anything needs adjusting . i'm using mackie 624 monitors so i pritty much have the good monitors thing happening . but i'm curious as to know why ,when you listen to say a released cd on your headphones and the bass etc is very clear and distinct , is this because of just simple mastering or is there a trick / frequency / compression or something that give a bass clarity on both headphones , speakers or whatever.
i'm just trying to figure out a way to make the bass sound clear /smooth and distinct on any speakers or headphones . eg like shift , cpu , phyx style bass etc cause when you listen to there bass sound on any stereo/headphones they sound good.
thanx |

Hey Smudgie,
so to be honest with you I haven't experienced mastering yet but I immagine that matering has a lot to do with what we're saying.
All I can tell you is that yes I have the same problem but lately I have done a bassline which sounds good on both monitors (I have the mackies 824s) and on the headphones (they're almost the same).
It took me a nice 8 months to get the bassline I want but finally I got it.I think it's just a matter of notes, velocities, eqs etc....There has to be harmony between these and my recommandation is:
1st work on the bassline and when it's very good use the same eqs and frequencies you used on bassline on kick cause most of thetime it's not just a matter of bassline and the kick is extremly importnat too.
If u need further help feel free to pm |
