i think the last FSOL album 'the isness' was not terribly unlike something that pink floyd might have done in the 70's (with syd, lol)... i mean damn, GARY COBAIN EVEN SINGS!! live instruments, effects, psychedelic themes.. it is all very conceptual imho.
also, radiohead (although they are more of a live band) has a lot of elements in common with pink floyd... especially the last couple of albums (kid a/amnesiac) that have had more electronics than their previous releases... they have become quite experimental in the studio, not unlike PF.

the thing is though, as artists continue to try to make new music (or at least, something different), many of them find one particular genre too limiting... that is to say, their music doesn't fit neatly into the genre (or box) that people would like to place them into.
what is unfortunate is that many of their listeners will automatically say, 'oh i don't like this, they have sold out..' and won't even give it a chance. they will hide the cd somewhere and forget about it, only to discover it years down the road and say, 'wow, this is really good... why wasn't i listening to this before?'

To those of you who don't like comparing other artists to Pink Floyd - I did it because Pink Floyd made amazing music, and yet so many loved it. Their music is far from kitch but still they touched so many people. This is a hard thing to do.
I'm sure when Pink Floyd were issuing their albums and people were hearing it they were saying "this is genious music". And this is exactly the way I react (and I'm sure many mor people like me) when I hear the Prodigy and the Chemicals.

I don't agree Prodigy and the Chemicals are freestyle. You can't put it in this category. It's acid music I'd say.

And yeah Kaz, Plastikman are excellent. I like the way they start with one sound, and little by little add another sound, and then another on top of it.

well raver i will have to disagree on this one because first of all no one this days doesnt come close to the amount of talent that pink floyd had and i dont find the chemical or prodigy that great , they have good beat and soound but sure as hell not good as you say it is , in my opinion offcourse.
bands like pink floyd or deep purple or led zepplin or pixies (etc.) comes only once and that is all the beuty of it

I agree.. Prodigy is great.. even that Fat Of The Land album.. but DJ Shadow..
I don't see the big fuss on that Entroducin album.. I actually find it awful..
it's so boring, so crappy, so ... bad..

i would never compare Pink Floyd to anything else....never...it is psychedelic as nothing in this world and at a live show here in Brasil i had such a trip i've never had at no trance party.....

Like talamasca said, One Of These Days....speachless, speachless...Try "Ship" also...nothing is so psy...

I never liked Chemical Brothers. Prodigy is very good stuff, in addition, they were the ones who drawed the line followed by the electronic music which is more listened here.           No limits
