What is the media coverage of Raves and festivals in your country?
Let me explain this a bit better:
What is the image that they pass to society, if any?
How does it deal with the drug abuse on parties and festivals...
So on and so forth...
Please share your thoughts.

They don't give a shit really Sometimes you see a psytance album review on some magazine, and that's about it..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

well..in the year 2002, a story passed on a tv channel, here in portugal, about summer festivals and electronic music ones..and the image they gave it was pretty pleasent with beliefs and artists and people that went on thix fests (well typical people..let´s say the habitués on thix life since a few years till now)and of course..the drugs..well the image wasn´t that so nice..they talked about the traffic is made and the consume..well the negative side..           ...

Last week we had something similar in Brazil but they only showed the negative side, as if festivals and Raves were there simply as a place for ppl to do as much drug as they could...... just revolting.....
I am not beeing a hypocrit and saing that there are no drugs on our scene but there is much, much more to be displaid about it on the media( tks traveller) than the drug side.... imo           "open your mind....you might just see that there isn't anything to be seen"

Do we want the "psytrance culture" to be eaten by the media?

I agree with you psytone...
I think this scene and it believes is something very pure and good.
And the media tend to twist and commercialize things...
The vibe will be lost that way.

Ok think I´ve been missunderstood.....
What I wanted to konw is if the media in your country ever gave any attention to our scene..... and if so what was the out put.... and in my second post what I ment was that if we will have the media headlining our scene, than may it be about the good things in it and not sessiationalizing the drug abuse (wich heppends in almost every scene)...           "open your mind....you might just see that there isn't anything to be seen"

The media thrives on bad things. They will only try to destroy the scence. Keep them away.

I don´t think the media feels the joy and "harmony" that we do when we go to trance parties/festivals.
Therefore they intend to write more about the (to them) negative sides.           I never sleep cuz sleep is da cousin of Death

Properly because they dont do the amount of drugs some people do in this scene in order to experience that "joy & harmony"

Maybe less drug promotion would make the media look at other more positive things in the trance scene.

Aldus B is right - generally the media will only give attention to sensationalist side of any story that sells papers or gets viewers glued to the box - flesh for the beast! You can really forget about a balanced story, they will often only tell half or a quarter or less of the story which emphasises the negatives even if the journalist writes a nice story, the sub-editors edit it to shreds.

Having said that, before the Origin festival here a few weeks agao, the local newspaper in Cape Town did a nice story with a good plug for Nano and Protoculture But otherwise I think everyone here is happy to keep the scene underground and out of the media focus.

I saw the report watter is talking about..

Horrible and completely biased report.. They only show the drug use, nothing else.. They dont show how the parties, inspite of 4000+ people, didnt have one single fight (which doesnt EVER happen in all of the other events that they dont go against, such as hip hop parties, carnival, etc).. only because those events give them money.. hypocrites..

They also dont mention that drugs is not limited to trance, but to all different scenes (take carnival for example, where many people are fucked and even die from extreme alcohol abuse, lança-perfume or other inhalants abuse, etc)

Not to mention they straight out lied (showing a guy sniffing this Vick nasal discongestion and saying it was cocaine)

In the end, whoever saw the report and doesnt know the situation would think everybody on parties is abusing drugs, and nobody is there for anything appart from drugs

Very ridiculous media coverage we have, which doesnt help in anything, only create problems and misinformation..

btw, handA, you dont have to take drugs to experience Joy and Harmony... if YOU do, then you should really go to a psychologist or psychiatrist...
I see a lot of people enjoying and having fun and being happy and friendly with one another in festivals in a way that I do not see in any other social event where there is too much game-playing and many fights...
(not to mention there is a lot of responsible drug use too, appart from the also present drug-abuse)

or maybe you are just going to the wrong parties, handA?

True..I never saw a tv channel showing outdoor parties or known to me clubs for psytrance and not be refering to arrests and more arrests..

this will never change cause it the law of nature and life...
Some ppl by nature , charachter and personallity cant accept some unknown to them facts or cultures or even other counties customs...and in the other side...There are the ppl that see ... like ... aprove ... live by it.....(whatever that is in any different case..)

And i agree with Sherlockalien
they allways have the same tape and show some getto guys sniffing powder and sticking niddles or even rolling joints in a 'satanistic' way and then they move to the party pictures.... Lame reporters...
