Willinus, not knowing what you're gonna get is, as Tom said, all part of the fun.
If anything, the commercialism of a scene with a ratings system is something I'd hate! May as well be hardhouse.
And Promoters know very well what people look for at a party, its wether or not they can be arsed to act on it.

Positively thinking, I love the sound of the Atlantis TOF party, how's that for effort?!?

If a promotors motivation is to make money, then why choose to do it by promoting psytrance? surely if they want to make a quick buck then they would much better off putting on a hard house/hard trance night and fleecing a group of people that expect nothing more than a night of "banging tunes" and a neckfull of dodgy pills. (Hmm maybe I am overstating this a little)
I wouldn't call psytrance mainstream quite yet! There still isn't a single shop in the whole city of Bristol where you can even buy this music!!! crazy!!
Not wanting to sound cheesey or wafty, but I think the magic lives in all of us, it lives in the music and in everything that is drawn to it. It takes the right environment and the right energy for it to reveal itself and florish. (Of course a decent soundsystem is essential). Everyone at the party brings their own energy and contributes to the vibe as a whole. Some times an unforgettable party can be inspired simply with a smile.

Thanks for the nod pavi.. yeh I like to think we put a lot of effort into our parties, each one has a different theme, with floor to ceiling decoration, themed costumed dancers and fruit bearers. We usually spend 3 days or more just decorating venue and getting it looking right. Got a party coming up this weekend as it happens. (you can more info about it in this section)

Final thought.. when it comes to environments mother nature wins hands down every time, roll on the summer!!

......but in the meantime......

hI jASON

If everyone did party's like you do man, we would not be having this converstion :) Keep it up dude

I think the main thing to me is not that psy-trance is becoming mainstream, because I cant really see this happening, but the fact that the some resent events have been showing a little luck of effort, and this seems to be happening more and more lately, so evern as a perment guestlist kinda guy, I still like the idea that everyone gets there moneys worth, but when people have to pay 12-£15 for a party, you tend to expect something in the line of dacor and a decent sound system and too often you get nothing more than a free parties worth of effort.

As Jason put it "Everyone at the party brings their own energy and contributes to the vibe as a whole", but it's really hard to make a positive contribution when you feeling a bit ripped off, YOU THINK

when i first came in to the scene, from the acidtechno dayz, i did it for the music and not for all the hippy paraphenalia that surrounds it, and to be honest all the fluro and fluff did make me cringe at first. i think this aspect of the psy scene does put a lot of people off, i know people that dont like to party to the music because of all the relating hippy connotations 'love u!!!!!'....... some people just wanna get down to some flash music without thinking that they are part of some hippy mindwash magic, without dancing in front of a buddha drape, without being reminded of a 60's stylee that your hairy dad was in to......see my point?
now, im not having a rant at the 'psychedelic' atmosphere in the scene, im merely expressing a different point of view - a view that i have experienced myself and through other people.
i think that the amount of people that turn up to the 'parties with less decor' shows that maybe not everyone is pissed off about it. maybe new people coming in to the scene enjoy it without it, and these people dont neccesarily have to be from the mainstream either.
i've been to a hell of a lot of different parties in london that have no decor whatsoever and had a great time!
i personally love a bit of decor and prefer parties where the effort has been made in these areas - (although i still believe that one stobe light creates the best atmosphere any party could ever want:) )
Primarily people want good music and, particulary in psy trance, people go to where the best music is played.

Interesting point of view!

I like squat parties with good music, but if I'm paying £15 quid to get in, I expect some fairy wonderland to escape the drab city. At least a little effort.
Nicely decorated free parties even better!

Plus, the buddha-drapes: its trance's origins. For me it definetely suits the music, maybe less now than before, but to each his own. In truth, its not about the depictions on drapes, but the vibe and love the whole decor gives off: *What a nice place to dance!*
You want cold grittiness, go to a tekkno jungle or whatchamacallit. Antiworld have a hippy-free psy room, no?

Every individual has its own view of feeling things and getting affected with the feelings. The majority brings in the winner....

Let the consious psychological mind of every individual in this vibe be the driving force towards a happier and better psy parties to come !!

I think its great when you can have decor thats original and shows a bit more thought than a few flouro buddhas & oms - I love the Frogz stuff and my personal fave is the Earthstar decor - which is pretty f**king cosmic - but not a chackra to be found on it!

Right... it's up to us to bring out the magic and select the right event.
unfortunatly we will always find some people who dont give a damn about what has been said here and some promotors who only see a dallar sign on our faces !!
but i believe it's only human in this world.
It up to us to become more selective on the differents events and evoid those parties where the magic will never raise during the night !!
I do agree that psy scene is not the best one for promotors looking for money, but still some are trying anyway.
About ratting those events, it could be a good idea but, again...cause we are not all thinking that way, i'm sure it will become a ratting for most famous and mainstream parties, which is not what we're looking for !!
we have to trust our experiences, and our feelings to find the perfect one !!
If everyone was thinking like us it will be amazing but............
you know....,
different people....., different states of mind....., different motivations......., defferent world.

What can we do about it !!??!!           http://www.psytwin.org
