Now it's not only about the dying tech trance scene it's also about all the psychedelic Styles of Trance.
Since I'm trying to get in a good college and learn Communication (written journalism) I wonder what do you think about the journalism and Trance.
might the media be the end of it? If there will be weekly articles about trance parties, will it kill the underground?

But is there a really underground in Israel?
Do you think that Trance will end when our generation fade from the earth?
Who will continue the way of the tribe?
Do you think that the journalism should document the scene?
Should it be in the history pages in the music section?
Can the media improve the image of Trance?

Many question
Hope to get some answers/opinions

Well my dear host,u actually touched a very sensitive issue of "Trance culture in Israel".
We are standing theese days in front of the blasting amount of revolutions edge the good ones, realy, but the bad majority of it cosed by the media, mass media...

Unfortunately it was the fate of punk in UK,rock and rave cultures all over the world just that todays media "swallows" a new culture much more faster.
I do not have answears 4 all of ur questions,I wish I had cos' I do want to belive it will be o.k about our trance but the trend is trance to become a mass culture or by the Depeche Mode :"music for the masses" so sad but true...
some of that forum mambers can be proud to be a part of it's arising in Israel,so thats the only optimistic thing i have 4 u now...
P.S me agains the mass media

Nathan , u asked good questions that the answers for them are too long and complicated for here. however, if u are going to study communication- u will get the answers. in short, i can tell u that there are few approaches to the subject of the media influence on the masses: the Neo-Marxist theory, the Frankfurt school (people like Adorno, Benjamin and others), the Functional Theroy and more.
again, it's too complicated to elaborate here, but u can check one of the names i mentioned on the net. good luck!

hey nathan, dont take this the wrong way, please, but you got a lot of questions about the future.

since my crystal ball was broken by this crazy chinese doctor i learned that the future is here. we have been hearing rumours about the closing days of our tribe since maybe the second day of its existance. and still, new blood comes gushing in, people "die" out of the tribe, and new babys are "born" into it every day.

the wheels are in motion all the time. today is yesterday's future and since then so much has happend that it simply futile to try and guess. the next "headcleaner" can be in the making as we speak, or it might not.

living in the future is as dangerous as living in the past. you jurnalistic approach is maybe in the way of understanding that every action YOU take NOW will have a huge impact on the answer you seek.

DO !

(clarification, by no means did i try to offend you or your question, exactly the opposite. hope you got that.)           www.a-balter.com for info, shows new tracks and more.

Avishay, Sure there is something in your words.
The cycle of in and out ppl in trance scene is true in progress. Living the moment is a good advise to follow but without vision to the future (distance) we will not be able to see the edge of the cliff. I'm not talking about prediction because life is one big Present Progressive moment.
my questions weren't only about the future.

I don't think that the trance scene will ever become a subject for weekly articles, at least not in the major newspapers. It might be like that for a short period of time, like everything else in our country that goes up to the headlines for a few weeks and then fades away slowly to its normal place.
The media doesn't take electronic music seriously enough in this country, and you can see that by the way the articles are written (when there are any).
IMO, as long as it will stay a small-profit scene (unlike the hip-hop etc.), it will raise no interest from the side of the media. You can see that the only time you saw something related to trance on the news lately it was some article about Skazi (about how popular he is overseas and his videos in big festivals), but I think the scene is too small also to get the attention it deserves.
Fashion in Israel changes very fast, everybody heard about the trance at the late 90's and saw the big festivals (dance&levi's, ganey huga, lucky strike festival etc.), that's what got trance to the headlines, but it faded realy fast and from that moment on it was considered just another kind of music for rebelling youth.
Bottom line- IMO there will always be trance music, when somebody is hooked to this music - he's hooked! no way out.

But for sure there's a place for a good magazin or something like that, like you have in europe, but i guess it will be just another PR tool and won't reflect the real scene...

As a member of the press I can tell you that as long as trance will not become totally mainstream culture it will not get any attention.
Because in the media's eyes (and it reflects public opinion), trancists are just a bunch of weed smokers dancing in the woods, and THAT is not interesting enough, and not news worthy.
As long as reporters would use police as the main source of information, it won't change.

Isnt that similar to 60-70 rock music?

Trance will stay forever half-underground, since this music "Talks" only to certain people with certain state of mind... no worries for stupid press people to ever understand           Innovation is Evolution

HEy GuYs!!!! Always good to hear some opinions of "open-minded" people, and as long as there are some of these creatures around us the future is bright!!!! Music is music, it can rock, trance, electro or hasidic folk and as long as the special atmosphere lasts no scene will die. Son Kite, Atmos and other great artists played in shitty parties as well while small dj's had killer sets and sent people to another dimension....
THE PEOPLE MAKE THE PARTY/SCENE nothing more and nothing less!!!!!
If being a journalist is your ambition i reccomend you to read some of Hunter S. Thompson's stuff (not just Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), to get the idea what real journalism is about. The trance scene as well as the media only reflect the people's attitude, and thoughts......
Take care and keep asking questions, (i have been always told that asking costs nothing)
Peace and love
