i would agree, alot of the trance in the past was more "trance" and less "dancefloor bombs". the word trance means to be in a meditative state, and that is the goal of this music, to give the listener a transcendental experience. i like how the older stuff was more repetitave, and minimal, it translates into being more entrancing than alot of the music today that has a breakdown and buildup every 3 minutes. not to say that there isnt some amazing music being released today, i buy ALOT of new prog, fullon, and dark trance and i am constantly amazed at the level of production and quality of sound, and there are some tracks out there that have that solid drive. but lately i've been falling in love again with all my old cds and vinyls. just hope that the trance is coming back in the future.

I think the best period for psychedelic music is yet to come, but till now i think the best time was from 98 - 2004 then all started to grow bigger and shattered into millions of pieces around the world!

Since 2005, an may it never end, this years are the golden age of progressive Trance.
Also the years of Psy Trance, and I mean just Psy Trance where good 2000-2002. Today the only label which releases this kind of music is 'Twisted'.

this is more of a definition of the question at hand, but anyway:
the best music would be the music that can still be interesting without great production.
all genres show this: e.g. rock music, hip hop (wu tang clan aint nuthing to fuck with), jazz, metal, blues...
all genres have this great music that does not need top of the line production to still shake your music nerve, and furthermore, manages to outlast popular culture.
so too with pstrance.
the best period for psytrance would on the other hand, being a form of dance music, be the period that gets your ass shaking or your feet stomping the most,
but also, being a form of trance music, be the period that makes you trance out the most.
it kind of nails down to what are you most into?
trance, or dance?
the best was the now, in my opinion. now we have all of the past, and we have the present, and we have the future to look for forward to, for improvement, for commercialism, for something. whatever it is, its not going to be boring, i guess.

Yes indeed, when you put it that way, the "now" will always be the best, since you have all of the past with you already + the future ahead of you.

But in other words.. people still rant about Simon P, when he hasn't produced anything for years.. when we look at todays music, there is SO much of it that nothing stands out and people will "forget" about it after a short while..
so yeah, i think that if you re-read what i wrote above, and replace the words "today" with 2006 and "yesterday" with "2000" and "tomorrow" with, well, tomorrow, it should make more sence..
here's a better example.. i'd play tracks from the first CPU album over the second album anyday.. Same goes for Midi Miliz,.. etc..
im not bashing todays' music though.. i just think that, it will take ALOT more for the people to remember your music in today's market !!

people rant on about simon P..... cuz he "ROCKS"..... maybe he hasnt produced as much music...........but he is out performing at a high level for many people to enjoy.....and he truely is a craftsman....
i would say the music quality wise today is higher than it was before......clearer and crisper sounding.....a lot of innovative and unique sounds due to the increase in artists and producers that were inspired from earlier music...
but for ME the most special time was during 2001 -2003.....the emergence of my first proggy loves......atmos, son kite, vibrasphere and beat bizarre to name a few......
being able to listen to great artists come out with this "fresh" sounding groovy marching beats was beautiful.......
and this for me was special...
however, the music pre 2000 was absolutely AWESOME......cuz it was new for me........it was great feeling part of a new truely "underground" culture (at that time)......where you would have these crazy parties, with crazy "goodies", in far off places away from the cities.....where one could comfortably act the way he or she would like without feeling that they were being judged.......
i look back......and i see for me these three "epics" of my psy life have been and still are special....
keep up the nice smiles and positive vibes....

that does not mean that every piss will make good music my friend. there are so many good artist out there just waiting to blow you away. what i am trying to say is music evolves and i know so many old folk that still listen or i should say only listen to the music that they dicoverd when they were young you get my drift let evalution take its course and embrace it.andromeda soul surfer |
