agree w/ shiranui's description of the NoCal psy - it is quite silly, but there is nothing like a good laugh on the dance floor. Same with SoCal.. stuff like dylalien always plays some random samples like a mechanical lady giving directions on how to clean a cd or cdplayer.. something like that.
SE likes it a bit harder with lots of harder, foresty, neuroish mix.
NE loves high energy full-on/prog, through there is some good Xenon quality tech/darkprog that gets played.
Dunno too much about the middle of the country, haven't heard too many released tracks.
Have heard the dubstep played at the world bridges during the day which is awesome, and I have nothing against dubstep, and I do like dubstep. But when did it get SO BIG? All of a sudden everyone I know in New Jersey is going crazy for dubstep! People who despised edm like a year ago.
that's a funny story moondoggy -- gotta love those moments. |

Midwest hardcore (punk rock) back in the early 80s was like this. Raw and for real. Expect no different with psy. Midwest has always held it's own.

Haha, I thought you were talking midwest hardcore techno. Ya, we always do it harder and dirtier, no matter what the genre.

DJ-wise, I've found that the US is pretty diverse in everything. I know a psy genre for just about every niche. It's absolutely wonderful! I only wish there were more "1-off" parties for the dark full on style!
Production-wise.. Most of the things produced by the artists that reside here, at least IMO - leans to pretty darn abstract (I like to call it wtfpsy), or ethereal and spacey or just pretty dang dark at various tempos.
