I would advise you, however, to keep track of the offers that surface on KVR Audio's Marketplace board ( http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=43 ).

I am used to buy 2nd hand vsts on KVR Audio's Marketplace, some great deals but beware of the scammers (one of them took my money before disappear).           http://soundcloud.com/alphadelphi

Thanks PoM for you solidarity. but at the end was not a problem at all.

The only time that i was scammed was for a fabfilter bundle, and without i've asked nothing, Frederik from FabFilter wrote to me asking for a proof of my payment, and after that i send to him he did the transfer anyway.

Nice, it isn't?

Unluckily there were other people scammed (that paid for the same thing) and I don't know how it's ended...

By the way KVR still to be my reference to buy/trade/sell, almost all of my software comes from there but a little attention more is a good thing.

they charge 1.9% to 2.9% + $0.30 USD..
on a $20 payment that would be 0.88 cents (0.58+0.30) is not much.
if you pay as a paypal gift, there's no transactions fees.. or they are smaller.
I don't know if paypal offer moneyback protection in those cases..

other issue: the seller might be selling the same licence over and over. how does that work for software updates?

Yeah I was going to say...how is it legal or acceptable to sell the license/key of a piece of software?

What's to stop me from buying a piece of software and then re-selling the license multiple times until I got the software for free in the end?

Sure, some companies probably do online verification much like a CD key for an online game or something...but surely they are in the extreme minority?

I would only buy boxed stuff..
and even in box versions, the people who sold it may have done a cd/dvd copy and scanned the licence and still use it

if the company allows free updates, with no user acounts or product serial registration... both would benefit from them

you have to register a account on their site with many companies .
if you sell new buyers will create a account to get support and updates and if he use the same key you will get trouble.
with some software the key you have won t work on a other pc so you can t resell , you have to do a liscense transfer and the companie need to know it to give a new key to the buyers.
also uslaly you buy plugs you like, if you resell and loose your liscene cause of that you will be pissed so i guess not many try it.
tbh when you get a synth like massive for 65 $ from someone that cell it ,you feel more like it s a bargain than loosing money . when you buy a synth like a virus for 1000 euro , massive 65$... good software are the best bang for the buck by far

ppl are so used to get everyhting for free they don t realize... for example a synth like ace that cost 60$ that you may find for 40$ on kvr market place ,10 years ago it would have been impossible to think something like that would be possible, what you get for the price is insane and make some of us more than happy to pay and support to get even better product in the futur.

I bought a lot of stuff with student discounts. Sometimes it's half the price.

As a DAW I'd recommend Sonar - it's a bit cheaper than Cubase, and has a lot more value inside, you get all those cakewalk plugins (z3ta, dimension pro, etc).

Same here, I bought Logic 8 when I was working for my university in Cambridge (got the student discount even after I graduated, yet worked for UK university) for £118!
And considering the plugs in included in Logic, its a steal!

Peace out.

Actually Sonar was without the student's discount, but just about everything else was.

I know that Ableton has nice discounts for students.

Cubase also had a nice student package. But the problem with that one is that you can't upgrade it.           soundcloud.com/supergroover
