I think techtrance is great - but usually the problem is that people just don't make it very psychedelic, rather just clanging and banging with a trance structure. I don't diss it - I just think that 90% of this music is a lot closer to techno than to psytrance. The music is very aggressive, VERY powerful in a very obvious way.

A Canadian techno fan I met once told me: "I can understand what you like in your music - personally, I just need a solid bass and some clanging"... There are too many tracks in the techtrance style that I don't consider trancey. There are of course a lot of examples that everyone knows.

My question is this - is techtrance moving away from trance and closer to techno with time, or was it never that close to trance to start with? Or am I just totally, utterly wrong?           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Guess you are right.
Most tech-trance these days are too heavy on the techno part, and pretty low on the psy side.

The Delta album was kind of a turning point imo...

but still some pretty psychedelic tech-trance shows up these days...Huja and PPS are on the forefront of this imo again.           the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist....

wheni listen to tech-trance u are talking about i feel its not trance, when i try to define it as not trance music i probably dont find the way to do it.
imo,its gonna be independence style that have enough force to be just - tech-trance.
techno ppl will not get what they look for at this party But trancers (include me) also will not get the right feeling.

i agree with luiz that the delta album was a turning point. too dark and techno and not enough psy. however the xdream album is still not too far techno imo great psychedelic music.           >>love will tear us apart...<<

... actually ... i call trance ... all the music , that makes me feel like i swim up in another dimention ... if a techtrance track , makes me feel the same , or actually makes me feel smile and happy , thats the real trance for me ...
the samples in one hard track could be so simmilar as a samples in a techno piece , but the truth is that techno trakcs cannot make me smile and shine .... so ....

Techno has many different forms like acid techno, minimalistic, detroit, electro, old school, hardcore and many more, including tech-trance, tech-house. Tech-trance is a mixture of techno beats-basses(minimalistic mainly) and psytrance synth layers ,digital or analogig effects or acidlines.. The analogy is not 90% techno!

Take for example Jeff Mill's detroit techno and compare it with the Delta.. Or Chris Liberator's/Carl cox pure techno and compare it with Authentik or Source Uknown.
Tech-Trance is very similar to minimal techno and psychedelic trance of course , not to pure techno
Imo ,Midi Miliz's music is closer to minimal techno than any other tech-trance group.
the new delta album has moments that are dark ,psychedelic even a bit melodic sometimes..
X-dream's music is again more trance than all the other tech-trance groups (not thorazin track though )
So imo tech-trance definetely is not 90% techno i think that the mixture is balanced in most of the groups.

Well i think the part that makes this stuff all trance is the beat. Techno doesnt have a continious 4/4 beat(is that what you call it?). well n e ways Techno-trance is techno trance. I dont think it has to be psychedelic. Although the only group I know so far that is close to real techno is Source Unknown. All the rest of the groups, delta, xdream, PPS, Hujaboy, SestoSento, Midimilliz do have a psychedelic touch to it. You should be able to recognize it immediatly.
If you listen to techno you can tell the diffrence for sure.

Techno doesnt have 4/4 beat? what kind of techno you describe Hikari? Electro? or some old school tracks with breakbeat influences? ? Check out tracks from carl cox, dave angel, jeff mills, Tim Baker and many others.. Most of techno nowadays is continuesly 4/4 beat..

we will end up having a genre for each byte           I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, its a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do,and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.

Rosengren is right i guess.
Maybe there are no gendres at all, each artist sits in front of his synths and pc in order to make music first of all for himself,i dont think that he says that he will make full on or ambient or techno.
He just begins writing music.
Offcourse we have to generalize music in different categories so that we know what we are talking about but i guess these categories should be very general and not specific so terms like psytech trance, oldschool trance and the likes are not really necesaire.
A track can either be a party hit,a chill out one,an experimental one,a good or a bad track.
Hey maybe that's the solution,a track is either good or bad           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!
