We are also putting on our thinking caps for how to do a killer festival that tours...
Iowa, Colorado, Texas, North Carolina, Philly, NY, Vancouver, Mexico (Guad, Monteray, Mexico City), LA, SF, Portland, Seatlle all could theoretically be good host locations for a bash that goes on Tour.
Meaning we get our line up and then set a grip of dates and get the crews in each zone on board as co-planners for their local area.
This is not a new idea. In 93 the SEE THE LIGHT tour with Orbital, Moby, Aphex Twin, Young American Primitive, and a DJ from Utah Saints plus a huge visual/deco installation crew did a US tour that was EPIC! 30+ dates... totally Psychedlic totally trance... was off the hook. They gave out a 4 song tape, shirts and other stuff for sale, evryone left totally blown away! We had all seen the light after that show... whoa!
so why not do that concept but 13+ years later... it has not happened since, even though it was said that it was a succesful tour (that was before any of those bands were Huge btw)

weird. completely seperately from this thread there was an idea born this weekend of having a trance festival in colorado. CO is good cause its a hub for america west, would be cheap to get there from anywhere in the country...
memorial day weekend is out for us though, its the goa gil party here in n ca.
The weekend we had in mind was the full moon of July... the full moon is on a sunday 29... the fest could be Thursday- Monday...

yeah but memorial day or another 3day holiday would be best for something like that, sometime when people have monday off from work and can actually afford to attend something that goes a whole weekend
and really that translates to memorial day or labor day, and well labor day puts things head to head against bman.....
this is one of those things where individuals should choose to be less selfish to create something bigger and better than we all are individually

Another thing to keep in mind is that Memorial Day would be very early in the season for many parts of the country and you may have trouble getting people to travel the distance for their first outdoor party of the year.
4th of July is also nice for a US-wide gathering, except next year when it's on a Wednesday.

The July date is not only a full moon but also coincides with the Mayan Day out of time! plus since its later in the summer, there might be more people coming round to attend burning man etc...
Flights on holiday weekend tend to be more expensive too....
anyway if it would be on memorial day weekend i would be sad because we are already commited to making the goa gil party on that date here in CA, so a whole bunch of us would be left out 
regardless, i'm thinking that this festival would be like, THE thing everyone does next summer... take a few days off work and come play...
i'm picturing it kind of like burning man, with camps, etc.. only with alllllll psytrance and downtempo

I say fuck burning man.... I would much rather attend an all psytrance event then spend 2000$ at BM. or am I the only guy who doesnt really care about burning man? I dunno.... lush mountains and green trees or dirty dusty hot stanky playa where everyone is talking shit about that loud psytrance?

one's personal feelings on BM aside, the bottom line is if you throw a festival the same weekend as The Burn I would think the turnout would be greatly reduced |

Gaian Mind goes from Thursday till Sunday during a non-holiday weekend. I also find it sometimes more difficult to get a Friday off before Memorial Day or Labor Day as everybody else at work wants that off to.
Losing the BM crowd or the Gil crowd is also too many people to lose..
Also if this is going to be an annual thing. July 4th will end up being on a Thurs-Sun after the fest really gains steam..

well, for the most part, anyone who was given enough of a heads up about it and really WANTED to be there, could take a friday and monday off.
so many of the psy family have been attending bm and the meltdown for so long, i don't think it makes sense to plan something on these day's. if i lived in cali and could choose to drive to angels camp or fly to Colorado, i'd probably stick w/ gil...
anywho, glad this thread is here.
