Hey Isratrance hermanos, im not super active making topic but this just crossed my path and even if it is from november of the 2012, still is very interesting and Def a controversial idea...

“The real issue is with “artists” who swear they can play any format be it CD, vinyl, usb and or Traktor but whose Traktor sets are nothing but stale, bland and outright insulting to a paying crowd and promoter.

We’ve also grown tired of the endless issues with missing cables, problems with timecode (learn how to use your gear before you play out), taking up the previous Dj’s time to set up your gear (cause you didn’t want to come to the club early and set up your Traktor), how is it you play 5 times a week and still don’t know how to set it up right?

And, more importantly we’re fed up with the general laziness shown by 99% of “artists” that we’ve seen and heard playing Traktor.”

full note is here

what do you think about this kind of Situations inside our Scene???

it would be very cool to read your opinions!

I would never work with a Agency telling me how to do my work

It's not the tool you use but how you use it. I rather listen to a DJ playing via traktor doing nice mixes IN KEY than to listen to some "I know it all" DJ who trainwreck every tune or does not have the ear to play harmonic.

You do not become a better DJ just because you play CD or Vinyl!

A good DJ is a DJ who know how to communicate with people on the floor, a DJ who know what tune to play next to lift the floor even higher and how to take them on a journey. Trainwreck mixes and out of tune mixes does not make a good journey.

When I used to dj, I always preferred cdj's, I still have a copy of traktor, but never really liked it, one can always hear when that sync button is used, because it never works 100% right. That said, I am sure there are people out there who use Traktor in a very elaborate way and actually not only make great sets, but also respond to the crowd. So it's like always, don't generalize! You might miss out one the one Traktor artist who really stands out!

Well is it any worse when promoters openly allow Dj's that get paid and pretend to mix to the ticket buying punters which in essence don't give a damn if they are being ripped off swindled etc .. All you have to do look at those who have been caught on Camera faking it !!!. All it takes is for one disgruntled ticket buyer and things will change . IMO i'm still a vinyl user/buyer/collector .. And recently bought some cd players they aint great but least they play cd's . But could i watch a pc screen to mix with not on your life

I sold my cdj100s & DJM300 after 6 years in 2012, and bought Traktor S4 controller.

1 year on I hardly touched my new gear, sold it & bought my original set up which I use again daily.

Computer is fine for production but so boring IMO for DJ'ing, and all the "extras" of Traktor just make DJ'ing overly complicated which it shouldn't be. A dj mixed tunes, simple.           Cuntus Maximus.

and also actually if i was a real dj, i couldnd caress more for that agency.

an agency who is worried about the artist/dj using traktor, and do not understand that the future of music will be digital formats, is simply lacking the vision.

a dj/artist is lazy in traktor aswell on cdj´s. maybe what they want is a personal trainer dj..yeah that would do the trick probably..pretend to "work" (jump and waves his arms and shouts)and seems to be enjoying more than everybody else while playing..c´mon..give me a brake.           ...

That's my feeling too.

If anything, the agency should be doing a better job choosing their DJs/Artists in terms of what they make come out of the speakers.

Not wanting to steal the topic but having here people who know about it i have a question, i am not an experienced dj, and i use virtual dj just for fun and playing for friends, how do u mix Goa? there's lots of melodies going on, in full on is easier i think, break, new kickbass and of u go but goa with the bass not being so proeminente i find very hard even in key.

If that's how they roll they should ban the BPM counter

Infact new CDJ Nexus from pioneer has a full visual cue and eveything, pretty much the same thing as Traktor without the beatmatch button... or maybe it already does?

@ Nomad, have heard talk of this software called Mixed in Key but never checked it out. Best option though would be practice some mixes, let your ears be the judge and then colour code your collection for mixing.

I use traktor and adore it...much more than cdj! For me djing gain a new pleasure that i didnt have before with cdj.

I think this is a very contradictory statement from this agency....they basically blame the software for the lack of knowledge a dj has on his tool and the lack of professionalism. Prejudice, prejudice, prejudice! They should spend more time knowing the djs they invite or represent.

This sorth bS only happens in this scene...f****** ridiculous!!!!!

I work with traktor for more than 3 years and i dont share your view of the sync issue...it works perfectly! You need to spend some time working the grid, markers and cue points...that's all!!! Of course not all tracks are mixable even with a sync button at your disposal...but i'm sure you know that!

I think that agency mentioned here is not booking psy artists at all, they are more techno oriented.
And personally I have nothing against using traktor or similar software, though I prefer cd's and I still buy vinyls as much as I can, simply because I simply love them, but let's face it, they became vintage long time ago.
In the end, it's a bit ridiculous to tell the disc jockey what equipment they should use, but it's theirs money and they have the rights to do whatever they want, and that's not such a big deal IMHO.
