Its not that... its just that 99,9% of the time... the promoters lie and say, yes there will be a guy waiting for you at the airport with a card board with your name...
They lie... and they dont give a fuck... they book artists at a party, then they dont even care if they play or not... why ????

Cause ppl have already bought tickets and THEY KNOW, that if the artist dont show up... ppl will say they are assholes...

Look at GMS in this case... they WHERE RIGHT not to go if they got feedback that they where not picking anyone up at the airport...
Its not very fun to come to a country where you know no one and dont speak the language.

If you can't get drivers to pick up ppl from the airport... if that is to hard to get... WELL... you shouldn't be organising an event of this size...
OR you could at least say... ok; we can book you, but you have to get yourself to the party...

BUT HEY !!! its the trance scene... and as you ppl tend to accept it.
Just dont bitch that all the good artists turns to other kinds of music cause of it.

But more than 90 % of the artists have played at the festival. They didn't all walk from the airport to the festival did they? So the promotors lied 10% of the time.
And artists don't have to behave like kings, if there is no one to pick them up (and if it's possible logistically-equipmentwise), catch a bus or a taxi. You already earn 500 to 5000 euros, and you are in Turkey for free.
I mean what an attitude to chose not to fly for free to Turkey and earn money by playing your music for thousands of people on a solar eclipse festival.
I'm wondering which artist was left alone on the airport and took the effort to get to the venue on his own. That's what I call style.

Magical festival by the way
I'm counting the days to Japan-2009.

When you charge or double charge 180euros for a festival the least you have to do as a promoter is to pick up the artists from the airport cause if you dont that means you dont give a fuck about the artists(as long you used their famous names in the line up to get as many people to pay this super expensive ticket) and in the end you blame the artists if they dont find their way to the festival as arogant super stars,,,,and on the other hand you have all these "underground djs" who play for free just to promote their little ego and to make these greedy promoters richer!!!

I just read this on the soulclipse forum
"The LineUp was frenetic, the acts were overwhelming (Ozzy, Astrix, Hallucinogen, Star Sounds Orchestra, InfectedM, Shpongle, Taco, Pixel etc.) and respect on them - they got the flight paid and 200 € for food and drinking - no more! They were coming and playing for the people and the sun, not for money - Big THANK YOU ALL!!! "

If this is true, hands up for the artists!

And Hellios, I really can't blame the organisers they failed picking up less than 10% of the more than 100 artists. I mean... Were you there? I'm really amazed how they managed to get almost every artist on the venue. But with no words from some artists and the promotors, the story never will get clear.

Though i agree with the fact that artists shouldnt put on royal attitudes (after all they dont shit gold or roses....) i have to correct your mistaken impressions. Many (if not most) of the artists that were on the soulclipse line up had agreed to play there in exchange of transportation (plane ticket or whatever) only! And they got a few food/beer/water coupons (but not enough to cover the duration of the festival). so if you look at it from that perspective, not only they didnt return richer from turkey but they had to spend their own money there. Not to mention the artists who returned with damaged material that the organizers didnt repay and the ones who had to stand in line and struggle to get their plane tickets paid back....

I believe that any organizer is bound to find obstacles on his/her way and it's almost impossible to create a perfect festival where everybody is satisfied with everything. In the case of the soulclipse the word mayhem seems pretty appropriate...there just seemed to be problems all over the place... due to poor planning & underestimation of the task and possibly arrogance!           if your face is ugly, learn to sing

Well as I quoted before
"The LineUp was frenetic, the acts were overwhelming (Ozzy, Astrix, Hallucinogen, Star Sounds Orchestra, InfectedM, Shpongle, Taco, Pixel etc.) and respect on them - they got the flight paid and 200 € for food and drinking - no more! and you confirming it, really is heartwarming to read most of the artist put on such attitude.
So my mistake

I can assure you that it is a wishful rumour that does not hold one bit. They got paid big fees.

It is true some artists had to pay their own flights and did not get paid or even got much food. The debate should maybe be if thats fair or not when the big stars get the whole cake?

It is sad for me to see that something that was such an amazing experience for about 10,000 people has gone through the forum filter and turned into a cheap politics, slender and ego discussion between few people- some of them weren't even there.

This community (is it still one?) has some serious thinking to do...

Just to remind you what this was really about:

i can only speak for myself here.
Not only did i play at this festival for free,i ended up donating most of my time on site helping out,in the office and running in between the stages.there was so much chaos going on that was out of the organisers control.
you cant make provisions just in case a stage collapses,or your bus drivers decide not to work,or most if your acts change flights at the last minute,or if your stage managers go missing,or even if your backup gear had been damaged along with your original gear. i came to turkey with the expectation of meeting alot of the global trance family, sharing the eclipse experience, and of course the greatest(biggest)lineup ever assembled.as far as i remember only 3 acts didnt turn up,thats 3 out of 200,amazing ratio considering the logistics of co-ordinating so many artists.

I was more then happy to lend whatever help i could to the soulclipse crew(being an organiser of festivals myself,i immediately felt an urge to lend my assistance),as i saw the madness that followed after the stage collapse, and i didnt want to be another "spectator" as there was already plenty of those.
I remember giving certain artists money from my own pocket after they came and complained that the food that was avaliable for the artists, wasnt up to their expectations.
and that they didnt want food tickets.
Now despite the assumptions of people on this forum that the indigo kids are safe on a carribean island counting their $$$,i wouldnt be suprized if they were all still on site, trying to clean up the mess left by ,8000 festival goers, turkish insurance companies & and about another half dozen or so organisations that screwed the indigo kids ,and ended up charging /fining them for just about everything that went on in the week long festival.

so thanks to shahar for reminding us what the soulclipse was really about.
(and was very cool to meet yo too btw.)
and thanks and a big hello to all the other great people i met and to all the acts & djs that played .hope to see you all again in japan at the next eclipse.           A TRIBEADELIC GATHERING

A Big Thank You to the organisers for inviting me to play at the festival.. especially one that was full of good dancefloor vibes and diverse music.

I didnt get to hear all the acts and djs I wanted to hear but of the ones I did the musical highlights for me were:

Hydrophonic - very tight live set
Deedrah - I couldnt stop dancing if i tried
Kindzadza - this man rocked it! AMAZING (my fav live set of the whole party)
Naked Tourist - 'Do you fuck as good as you dance?'
Digital Talk - brilliant basslines
Para Halu - loved their new sound
azax syndrome - packs a punch
Dmmt - their remix of 'the door's is brilliant
fungas funk - this is how every sunrise should be loved the live version of 'space love'
g.o.w - holographic soundscapes!
inneraction - this new(ish) act is ripping it up.. music with balls
dimitri - phhwwwwwwwwwoooooaaaaar!

im not so much of a progressive lover, but emok, vibrasphere and dj goetz stood out from the rest. Its the first time i saw goetz play and he really impressed me (thanks for the help when i need it most!)

i still cant believe i missed absolum, feio, penta, jellyheads, ccl, cpu, ocelot, bon and ketamind

BIG RESPECT to LANI from Belgium. These guys play a REAL live set and brought out what looked like their entire studio to perform their new album for us.. only to have the stage fall down on it all. These guys worked hard to get as much of their equipment as possible working again to perform. I have to thank them for showing me that there are people out there in this scene who are passionate, dedicated and teeming with energy that seems endless.

hello to all the new friends i have made! see you all in japan 2009!

Hi
About the transportation for the artists....

I played at this festival, and was picked up at the airport, just like a bunch of other artists... We filled up an entire bus with artists, and was transported safely to the hotel. I heard there was some trouble for some artists to get from the airport to the festival, but in general, MOST artists were picked up...

I had a great time at the festival (except a few things that I can not blame the festival organisers for, such as loosing my luggage and problems with the banks down there). The time schedule for the artists were messy, but that has offcourse a lot to do with the main stage collapsing... The festival was a bit messy organised, but not any more than I expected.... I mean it was in Turkey for christ sake! A country with the slowest inhabitants I have ever met... So, thumbs up to the organisers who gave me this great eclipse experience, and managed to pull of a festival in such a difficult country... It was also a pleassure to play there...

Best moments for me:
-DJ'ing for people with such a positive energy and great vibes!
-The eclipse! It gave me goose bumps! Much stronger experience than I had expected...
-Hallucinogen and Total Eclipse live. Simon in the chill, and Mauxaum in the chill.
-Getting to know so many friendly artists, djs and trippers on and around the dancefloor...

Hi to: Max & Maurizio, Shahar, Christoff, Serge, Haltya, Mr. Holweck, Hilight Tribe crew, Alternative Control, Michelle, the norwegian gang, chill stage manager, Ticon guys, Paul T, D-Tek, Vataff Project, Indigo Kids and everybody else I met...

See you in Japan maybe?

You guys all make very valid and convincing arguments

i still think more couldve been more done on the side of the organisers to combat the chaos that followed the collapse of the main stage but hey im just a spectator

it was really sad not to see GMS , S-range or Ibojima but we saw soooooo many fantastic acts that it can be forgiven

Does anyone know who it was who played after LANI i really enjoyed their sets

LANI i wasnt too impressed with as theyre selfless advertising of their album did not impress me (anyone who grabs the mic to promote their album on stage should be shot )

does anyone know who this is

he played after son kite
