reaktor have lot of great ensemble for what you re looking for, but it may be a bit random on many ensembles.. often have to record and just cut the usefull part .
izotope iris might interest you too.

what software synth(s) would you suggest for

?

thanks for the help!

My favourite synth for these sounds is massive, i make most of my soundscapes, textures, soundfx and pads with massive. when you become familiar with it you can make so many good sounds easy...amazing waveforms to start building beautiful sounds!the trick is to make a nice combo with different waveforms

I found extremely good the synplant vst...crazy and total different from the other vsts out there...amazing for ambient stuff

Another good synth is albino...i still use it and love it. mod matrix works great

For simply pads i like to use sylenth also...

I used to use also some nice free plugs here and there:

thanks pom and sunrise travellers for the help and suggestions! i haven't had the time to check'em all out yet but i will.
izotope iris's concept was really interesting cause i love sampling!
one odd thing that caught my ear in the youtube demos was that the original samples were of decent quality but then the processed material sounded kind of lo-fi:
some high end and overall edge or brightness in sound was missing.
has anyone got first hand experience with iris? is it true or was it just a bad demo?

Its worth to check also omnisphere...

from friends tracks i have heard so beautiful results!

i havent it yet maybe christmas is the time to buy it finally!

Recently i work also with samples...i take some samples or even record them from a synth and processing them to make more interesting results. i like to use natural field rec samples most but everything and i mean everything can do magic sound
similar to these techinques:

If you are using Logic you already have Sculpture which is great for atmos, drones and is an extremely deep synth, so it will keep you busy for ages.

Alternatively, Dark Zebra (Hans Zimmer and Howard Scarr) has some great stuff.

tbh i haven't been that impressed with sculpture.
i'm certainly no expert on the synth but the way it's designed and the sounds i've got so far out of it (which are similar to the sounds on the youtube demos above) are not the thing i'm looking for.
i generally dislike digital synths or vsts that try to model string or reed instruments (or in this case even marbles) as the end result is still most of the time uninteresting.
thanks for the suggestions anyway...

reaktor have maybe hundreds of ensemble for sound like this, it s one thing he does best with weird fx and samplers.
if you have it i will suggest you ensembles but not sure it worht buying it just for these sounds.. it s expensive just for this but still one of the best bang for the buck in software, i could cover most of my plugins need with it .

for example :

one of my new fav :

zebra also great...almost any synth with complex matrix..massive with the great wavetables.. largo
