It's like when they came out with distortion pedals for 'heavy metal' and 'punk'.

It's just lame

Probably the most ridiculous thing I've read here in a while.
DJ Shadow, ST. Germaine and many more would like to have a word with you           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

^ Not the same as we're talking about here. Interesting if you fail to see the difference.

Do you make music? Do you know that you can make completely new sounds from a sample? stuff you'd never thought came from an original 808 rim shot, or clav, or anything.
So simply dismissing people that use samples as not artists or whatever, simply means you don't know enough about making music.

Now in this case, obviously the people (most) that buy them sample packs will just use them as they are cause they can't be asked to learn how to make their own sounds and want to skip the sound design process to either short cut their way from n00bs to "artists" with releases on labels nobody's heard of, or even big names that don't get enough studio time due to busy gig schedule, and would use some ready made loop if they liked it enough. Same goes for massive commercial artists like Steve Angello...everybody does it.

Does the average punter care? No.

So once you understand that, we can endlessly argue about it.
Personally I think using ready made sounds to simply drop them in an arrangement and build a track, sucks royal dick. But that is because I enjoy the sound design part in my studio, more than anything.

Other people feel different about it, there is no right or wrong answer simply because the average punter simply could not care less if the artist made his own sounds, as long as the music is good.

Thank you. That's all I'm saying too.

It's like those effects pedals, as I was saying. "Get that aweomse 'punk' sound with the new Punky Pedal!"

You mean, as long as the music sounds as they expect it to sound when they go to a psytrance party.

How very psychedelic.

I use guitar pedals to put my synths through, and I play guitar. The analogy is not correct, a sample will sound the same through a guitar pedal, regardless of who triggers it.
Whereas the tone of a guitar depends wildly on your style of playing.

I was referring to when they came out with those distortion pedals so kids could get a generic 'heavy metal' or 'punk' sound.

(I've been playing music in bands since I was a kid, mostly guitar and bass, sometimes drums. Tried my hand at producing psytrance and had to bow out to not having the time or patience. I give a lot of respect to those producers who put in the time and passion to do this, another reason why I can't respect those who use plug and play cliche psy sounds.)

That is not what I mean, you interpret what I write completely the wrong way and then throw another argument with no real weight on it and some irony to boot.

Generally speaking people do go to parties where they expect to hear music that they relate to and like.
I would not go to a dark psy party for example, or a prog party where I would look at the line up and see up there names that I know what kind of music they are playing and I know I do not like that kind of music.

Having said that, punters don't check out sample CDs as to know what kind of kick sounds, for example, they are to expect at a party.

You're way off.

If you use samples, midilines and presets you just can't make your own.Don't know how to use the synth. Can't make your own drum recording , can't make your own vocal recording and piano riff. DJ Shadow plays the Vinyls there is nothing else there. Face it go make "music" in ejay. You are raping someone elses music. This is so disgusting its like cheating. When you don't know it is ok but when you find out it does not feel right.
It is far far away from real original music.
Anyway there are guys that make those easily and will sell them to you so keep it up maybe
one day maybe you will make your own

think of that
What if everyone would just grab samples and forget how to make them ? Where would the music go ? This is just another way of making a living is to sell it like this that is the deal.

Industry standart.
