Just watched it and i must confess that i dont understand how this film won 8 Oscars and what is the whole fuss about it.In my humble opinion In Bruges is a much better movie than Slumdog Millionaire and the best film from last year.

This has to be the most exaggerated film in the last 3 years and about Rahman's soundtrack excuse me but i have heard better work than him and closer to the tradition of India.

7/10 because i liked the guy who presented the show, reminded me my self heh.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Although i agree with you on the rest, I thought it was a very ordinary performance by anil kapoor, have seen much better than that by him.           missing plug-in

3.5/10 .. average / boring imo , I see how it can and does have massive appeal to western audiences tho

+1
I rate this a bit highly...let's say 4/10, a cliché blockbuster with lots of common places, very well done in terms of production, the end is just a joke

I didn't like this movie too much as well.
Was a 5-6/10 for me

Trainspotting was a way better movie from Boyle.

Totally agree. IMHO "THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON" deserved the Oscar.

gotta say that this flick sucks balls
the first half when they still are kids is alright but when they hit the teens it all goes wrong. mishy mashying the worst of hollywood and bollywood to a utterly obnoxious "grande finale". the music is a disaster, way too loud and dominating the storytelling which should be the actual backbone of a movie. if you like this you probably like the high school musicals aswell
...and it serves well that it got so many oscars. the more oscars a movie gets the more crap it usually is. titanic being the absolute winner in both categories (utter crap and oscars). shameless emotional manipulation mixed with spectacular scenary equals lots of oscars. don't believe me?
check out the list below:

Films with 11 Oscars
Titanic 1997
Ben-Hur 1959
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003

Films with 10 Oscars
West Side Story 1961

Films with 9 Oscars
The English Patient 1996
Gigi 1958
The Last Emperor 1987

Films with 8 Oscars
Gone With The Wind 1939
From Here to Eternity 1953
On The Waterfront 1954
My Fair Lady 1964
Gandhi 1982
Amadeus 1984
Cabaret 1972
Slumdog Millionaire 2008

Films with 7 Oscars
Shakespeare in Love 1998
Dances with Wolves 1990
Schindler's List 1993
Out of Africa 1985
Going My Way 1944
Lawrence of Arabia 1962
Patton 1970
The Sting 1973
The Best Years of Our Lives 1946
The Bridge on the River Kwai 1957

Cinema is also about emotional manipulation and spectacular scenery so what the heck are you talking about?

Mentioning Lawrence Of Arabia,Schindler's List,On The Waterfront and Ben Hur as examples of bad movies that won a lot of oscars is at least an exaggeration.

And whats the spectacular scenery on Schindlers List (that is shot in black and white by the way for those not familliar with the movie) or On The Waterfront?

The docks where Marlon Brando works?

Yes Slumdog Millionaire is a very exaggerated movie but your post is even more exaggerated.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

Exactly.

Watched it again the other day.
Totally ordinary movie. I don't what impressed me so much the first time I watched it.

Maybe the fact that it's the latest Boyle picture.

i can't believe detox's post but believe wholeheartedly that pavel agrees with him

the list is _a list of movies that have won a lot of oscars_. it's not compiled by me but copypasted directly from a web site. the movies you mention do not necessarily have the "spectacular views" one usually associates with these words with but massive, pompous pazazz-value pictures like big armies marching on a field etc. what i'm saying is i don't like to be ordered where to laugh, where to cry and so on. these "spectacles" do so in a way too obvious way. it works for me the other way round like a donut with tripple chocolate or whatever that is too sweet. just makes me want to stick my fingers in my throat...

i guess i'm in my movie watching coureer at the point where i like so called boring pictures with very little music, not much going on and about ordinary people. just like some of you like tekno
