Sleep Music........

there are some good suggestions on this topic

to be honest i find a lot of the chill spoken about on this forum to be excessive for sleep. too lacking in structure and over done in terms of samples and wacky noises. shulman and entheogenic are prime examples of this. shpongle annoys me like this too. it has its moments, but sounds too much like a kid in a studio trying to play with all his toys and use his best samples all at once in every track.

i prefer (for really chill times) these artists:

ishq - orchard (brilliant, relaxing, as interesting or as pointless as you feel like making it)

biosphere - either shenzhou or substrata (take yourself on a wonderful and rich journey. a different journey every listen)

anything by aes dana! (although where ever you have a good stereo this is appropriate, any time)

spiritjack - sensitizer and makyo - yakshini get honourable mentions.

more analogue dubby minimal noise:

jan jelinek - loop-finding-jazz-records
vladislav delay - anima
rhythm and sound - rhythm and sound
gramm - personal rock
ulrich schnauss - anything (more pop oriented)
boards of canada - everything

i have been reading this forum for ages and buy discs on the strength of great reviewers like shahar etc... but i feel there is way too much emphasis on some artists and not enough on others. especially artists not released on the usual psy labels. there's a lot of great albums out there, and more every day. give this adulation of shpongle, ott, shulman, entheogenic etc a rest. they are good but not that good.

my opinion

i usually need beatless ambient to fall asleep to, otherwise i keep paying too much attention to the beats and don't fall asleep. most of my favorite cd's in this genre have already been mentioned, but here's another gem: Aphex Twin - Select Ambient Works Vol II. truly alien.

goblim: "btw, is it only me who find Ott, Shpongle, Shulman etc not Chill at all? Sure it's good music, but it's really not calm, chill-out music...."

-------------------------------------

here is something i said a couple of months ago in an interview made by shahar that as far as i know havent been published yet...

"Personally for me, not everything that is “slow” is necessarily relaxation music. I believe that if done well, this music can have an intense effect on the listener, moving him between different edges of the emotional spectrum quite easily and take him to visit strange and wonderful new worlds. So being quiet, mellow or relaxing wasn’t one of the main things we tried to achieve. We wanted it [the new album - in search of...] to be deep, moving and interesting, and judging by the amount of positive feedback we got, I think that we met our goal."

so i guess its not you.... its me

I actually kind of dislike "classic" chillout music. (and ulrich schnauss ) it bores me to death!

as for (right before) sleeping music recommendations:

murcof - martes
robert rich - bestiary (bad dreams are guranteed)
fsol - lifeforms
spacecraft - summer town.
robert rich and steve roach - strata.
plastikman - (turn down the volume a bit though)
ishq
scanner
starfish pool - illusions of move - the golden cycle
woob - 1194
the infinity project - mystical experiences
tip world - 12
dntel - life is full of possibilities
anja garbarek - smiling and waving
and almost everything by Hariprasad Chaurasia.

theres more but these are what i remember now....

hope it helps

Hey!

Like Kukan says, all the Ultimae artists are ok!
C.B.L, SolarField, Aes Dana & Cell are so amazing...

You can also try a very "old" album of Cosmic Baby "Stellar Suprem", a very rare album today, indeed!
For the most deep trip, try out the Orgship's Solar Quest album!...a major reference!...

Love,

Laô

It's just a view of mind...
