I disagree about sharing video clips or recordings of these events right now.
Keep them for real-time experience only.
Pics ok, but keep the music that happened an intriguing mystery so anticipation is there.

we will be posting some sections of the night for listen, and photos are still coming out right now.
i had my camera but was too busy!
as far as the bass lines, believe it or not, we were all doing basslines and were switching from person to person without a single word. there was very little bass overlap at all throughout the entire night.
Thanks for all the positive feedback. i am keeping lots in mind for how to spread this idea, and am always willing to give people info on how to recreate their own SLAMMO party.
This idea has to take hold around the world, i could see some crazy stuff happening with it!!

thank you squee... opening the source would be a changearound for a lot of aspiring musicians.
it's been too long that psy has been plagued by the fact that the producer's secrets lie within studio based technicalities and not the talent of the musician inside.

Wow, totally great idea. Leave it to the Northwest crew to do something like this.
I know Peaking Goddess has been doing it for a while, but in the US this is an idea just coming back into the collective mindset.
I am actually involved with a project down here in Florida that does psychedelic jams like this where I bring my computer and some stuff like my 303s, 808s, 909s, Korgs, SH201, and some other gear and then we get some people with drums and rhythym makers and a few guitars and organs and go at it.
You'd be surprised at how great the mass mind connection is and the flow of the music seems to come from outside of us and lead us in the same general direction while we are jamming.

I have posted info to mushroom magazine. i am trying to get the word out there full-on so that people can start getting into this idea.
I am taking credit for the idea with my girlfriend, but want to make it known that it is a very specific idea, this SLAMMO thing, that involves multiple artists bringing their own sounds together for a jam.
I don't pretend to think that this is the first time psy artists have jammed together, I think it is how it is done and with what it is done that makes this an original idea.
i am hoping this spreads, and i am super excited about all of your responses and really glad to hear that some of you are being innovative as well. now we need to make it spread, cuz god knows the world needs more evolution, and psytrance needs it to.
please please let me know if you want more info on how to do this setup, there are some simple things that need done that take some experience to do

being one of the artists in the Slammo experiment, I have to say that it was one of the most creative ideas i've seen on this scale of underground entertainment in the states.

The night was recorded and am anxiously waiting to hear the whole thing from a listener perspective. Some of the people that were in attendance said it was something they will never forget based on the tunes that were created unrehearsed and on the fly, built with pieces from each artist.
It was like voodoo magic, because all of us that were linked up each share the same passion in this music and we even compose very similar types of sounds. This allowed us to gel together like a real band, each person playing a couple different sounds on top of a groove with samples here, there, and anywhere appropriate.
There were crazy times when the layers were getting very complex, and then there were times when it was stripped all the way back to just a couple minimal synapses.
We would use hand signals or even just reach over to the next guy when the bass is about to change and pass the groove torch without any hiccups.
All we need now is sponsorship from Apple computers as it looked like a Powerbook commercial with all of our machines. lol
If Apple's handled midi like the PC, then this would not have been possible. It was quite something to have 7 computers with Ableton all going together in unison, and we even each had different versions of Ableton too.

well since this is music i think we need to hear it. bearing in mind that one slammo combo wont necessarily sound like another.
i think the public needs to hear the results of some SLAMMOS.
but my question is - must 7 macintosh laptop equipped artists collaborate to make it a TRUE orthodox SLAMMO, or is 6 ok, how about 5? 4,3,2? of course one person alone is merely slamming their head against the wall.
will you take the step that Yidam seems to be encouraging and actually pluck, key, and trigger every note or will loops from your latest hit single be the primary fodder for SLAMMING together? (you know he sounds very very excited about being cut free from the horrible bonds of the studio. can you make it really real time and cue things and just make it all up on the spot - headphones first of course... ?)
is an ambient jam of the same nature also SLAMMO? the name sounds a bit violent for ambient.
but i digress
really what i really really want to know is "what about guitars?"
maybe an air guitar at least?

Why not? Ive hooked up lots of pcs with midi before...
Anyways, cool concept, this is basicly how I make music with my friends here in norway...

i say slammo could be 2 or more different artists, though something about 3 seems a little more SLAMMO-ish.
as far as note by note or a bunch of loops, i think the variety is what SLAMMO's the set. I had a lot of loops, specially percussion and bass and kick. Others of us kind of 'specialized' in synth production and the like.
SLAMMO is in your eye.... er... in the eye of the beholder! SLAMMO can probably be an ambient set, sure, sounds great, though its roots definately in psytrance. and obviously, no set is a SLAMMO set without at least 1 air guitar, preferably an air midi-guitar, so it can be air-synced via airthernet
I am seriously defining SLAMMO as the days go, preparing for the gloriously over-defined place we all seek. If you all wanna help gear the SLAMMO idea in a direction, lets do it, lets all define SLAMMO together!!!

Basically Slammo comes from 2 or 7 musicians Slamming each other music thru their pcs . It has nthng to do wit Violent or ambient. this is wat the chinese man once said. |
