I finally decided to say what I think about this release I'm not posting a lot here

I'll be short: to me, what is amazing about this album is the fact that Shpongle is, to me, the only psy-trance act that succeeded in bringing WARM emotions in addition to psychedelia. What they achieved is incredible and unique : they managed to mix dream and reality
I think I understand why Raja says it's the best and probably the last one. They just reached something...

Well, I kept trying and trying, but the bottom line is that this album just did not do it for me. I played it again and again not because I wanted to hear it again, but because I was hoping to click with it. Didn't happen. There are a few parts I liked, but they're too short and after a few minutes it gets lost again.

Maybe it's a case of too much and not enough, or maybe I'm just looking for new sounds, and tired of the same Shpongle sounds, or maybe it's just not a good album.

Nothing lasts... but nothing is lost...

@ shahar
Actually if I have any gripe with the album at all (because I personally think it's ace) it's that my favourite tracks are just not bloody long enough - Periscopes and Herring especially, far too short. I want them to go on and on and on.

but can't lie as well.
at first, once i just got the copy i was fluttering the tracks fastly to get the idead what is on it...i was thought OMG this going to be the best thing ever.

but once i was sitting back the sofa and gave it a deep listening, i founf this album is cheap and most of the tracks are made without thinking much or maybe the opposite is the ture (thinking too much, doing less.)

i like only 2 maybe 3 tracks.

i think this is the must disappointing album of shpongle.

3/10

Exactly.

though i must say "Schnitzl'd In The Negev" is tasty.           OM NAMAH SHIVAYA !!! HARA HARA MAHADEV !!!

I agree with Shahar...doesn't grab me at all. Looks like Shpongle is becoming a parody of itself. The McKenna samples, flamenco musicians, the (annoying) pitched vocal fx, and Michelle singing gets a bit old. I can appreciate the perfect production and sonic trickery, but, like watching a big Hollywood blockbuster filled with flashy computer graphics and big explosions it never gives me the goosbumbs (like the first Sphongle album still does today). Time indeed for mr Posford to take a new step, hopefully one step closer to the concept "less is more".

have to agree with the latter posts here.
i really tried to find something on the album that would hit me (and/or caress me) but no... i didn't feel a thing and that's maybe the worst possible outcome when i'm listening to music.
there were short parts that kept me interested but all in all... nothing lasts
(and it stopped lasting after "lone deranger" and "are you shpongled" for me).
funny, how this album (and especially it's name) reflects imo the whole scene... or perhaps just my relation to it.

well, it didnt do it for me at first. but i played every morning at breakfast with the sun shining through the kitchen window and..... now i love it!
i ll admit that there s a couple of things i dont like too much such as the never ending guitar solo at the end and some funny sounding trumpets. other than that every time i listen to it something new pops up... although at first i thought it sounded cheap, i now really enjoy it !

I guess it's the same here with me- maybe also with the people behind the album....           ---------------------------------------------

I think that moments of genious like 'Mystical Experiences' are hard to remake, or in other words the lightning seldom strikes twice in the same place. And altho the later 'Shpongle' albums were of much higher production value, the emotions put in 'Mystical Experiences' are the Naive and the deepest of all 'Shpongle' creations, simply because all the CD's followed tried to copy the magical moments on the first CD.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

I kind of agree with you Yuli - even though I disagree with you at the same time.

Nothing Lasts is certainly more 'knowing' than the first two releases, both in terms of production and ideas. Their early tracks definitely have an exploratory, innocent feel to them and sound far more 'stream of consciousness' by comparison. But then, I personally don't think that's a bad thing. Like you, I prefer the early stuff but the fact is Shpongle grew up. To me Nothing Lasts is like a sonic culmination of their endeavours over the last five years and it 'reads' as such to me when I listen to it. It's like a *nod* to all the people and places they've travelled to up to this moment.

When I heard it would be their last release I was pretty gutted but actually, now that I've had this CD a few months and know it a little better, it seems more of a natural conclusion to all their previous work. I don't know where they could have gone from here; everything is in there already.

Anyway that's my take on it. I raise my hat to them in thanks for all the fantastic moments I have had listening to their amazing creations. Shpongle were the the first psy act I ever enjoyed and it's no exaggeration to say they opened up a whole new world of music for me. As such they have my complete respect. Top music. XX

I have this album more than a month now, and unfortunately I ve listened to it 5 or 6 times.....
I can't say that I like it....usually, when I like an album I listen to it for 3 days NON-stop....and with this albums it doesn't happen.....

What I am bored from Simon's music lately is the way he manipulates the vocal.....3 years now we listen this high-low pitch variations on the vocals.....In the beggining was quite cool....but now, I am sick of it...it turns me OFF !

Anyway, the title of the album explains everything.....NOTHING LASTS.......

From the other side, I would like to congratulate once again the duo (Simon and R.Ram) for their GREAT contribution in this scene.....

time to move on....

regards
