The drug-adoring samples are a thing which crept into this scene since the beginning, although modern full-on has way too much of these samples. They're being overused. Samples don't really cover the atmosphere laid down by the song anymore. When I think back a few years, Darshan used a lot of samples from sci-fi documentaries or movies. That worked extremely well, since the samples used were linked to the atmosphere found in the tracks. Nowadays I get the idea some artists just bang in a few samples from Hollywood's latest blockbuster and just build a song which sometimes doesn't even relate to the samples being used. So, senseless? Yeah. There are only a chosen few in this genre that can still use samples to good effect. Pity, really, since a good placed voice sample can actually enhance the listening experience.

nice words Acidhive, i think psysex were also great in using sci-fi samples to totally integrate into their tracks.

A bad sample can ruin a track for me - simple as that. If the track has a really cheesy sample, the track is not worth another listen, as no matter how good the music is I will find myself cringing everytime I hear the sample. Sadly, I've found myself so many times saying "That would be a really good track, if it didn't have that sample in it...".
