About transportation......
Its better to use the "Macedonia Airport" located at Thessaloniki city....
From Thessaloniki u have 2 options....
1.Take a bus/train/taxi to Alexandroupoli city (350 km away) and from there a small boat to Samothraki(2 hours away),OR
2.Take a bus/train/taxi to Kavala city (180 km away) and from there a boat to Samothraki(5-6 hours away).
NOw....If you use the "Eleytherios Venizelos airport in Athens,you have 3 options...
1.Take a plane/bus/ or train to Alexandroupoli city (850 km away) and from there a small boat to Samothraki(2 hours away),OR
2.Take a bus/train to Kavala city (650 km away)
and then the boat to Samothraki(5-6 hours away)
OR
3.Take a taxi from Athens airport to Laurio port,which is 50 Km away,and from there a boat to Samothraki(12-13 hours away)
BUT I DONT RECCOMEND THE LAURIO PORT,because there are only 2 boats departuring per week to Samothraki,and you propably wont find a ticket due to high demand.....
NOTE:From Alexandroupoli there are plenty of boats departuring everyday,and you will soon be able to book tickets for the boats departuring from there to Samothraki via the SamothrakiDanceFestival website.....

so.. i'll be @ athens the 25th.. my friend will be there the 26th.. i wonder if i could somehow manage to book some boat tickets the 25th.. it would be really nice.. i'd much rather take the boat.. hmm i wonder if there could any change be one departuring the 26th.. or maybe even 27th..

Traveller......i talked with the boat company....
Till now they have 1 departure per week, every Friday at 18:00....
This timetable will be updated in the middle of June,and it will have only 1 small change....the boat will departure every Friday at 20:00 o clock...so,,there is only 1 boat departuring per week.
About the boat ticket booking....Call at 0030 22920 26040 ...you can book a ticket,only if you prepay it ,via a bank deposit....For more info call them!!!!

Hello friend,
I'm asking for a help.
The thing is:
I bought a ticket for Samothraki festival and I have a problem with Greece visa. Five days ago I've needed confirm that I'm a student, and a copy of ticket. But now I need a guarantee from someone from Greece for my visa.
Can someone help me, and please, send me a guarantee for my visa.

Excuse me but if only one boat departs from lavrio each week on friday , we need to take the boat on 22th August in order to be on time... The next one is gonna be on 29th, which means we lose the first and second day!
I think somebody must talk with the lavrio port authorities to add another boat just for the week where all people will try to reach samothraki from athens. I think they did that the previous years. Or They could change the depart day from every friday to wednesday or tuesday or even monday.
I am sure that very few people can afford another 100 euro to fly to alexandroupoli.
People must work out a better solutions with boats, because train and bus sucks big time. |
