Droopah man, how's it going :)? Anyways, my 2 cents.

Russian sound is NOT goa, it's a hybrid of meat/minimal or meat/full-on, very agressive, very rough, with a tendancy to go at high bpms and ignore subtlety. The Russian acts are usually NOT at the highest quality on the production side (with all due respect, Haldolium and the likes are in a much higher league then Parasense), and that's what keeps the russian sound from breaking into the party lines (with a few exceptions like Parasense - Krakakot), and it's not because of the style's lack of potential. If done on higher levels, we get Morphem (still, not one of the most proffesional acts) and the likes, and if more proffesional than that, it can go VERY far IMO, but it's just not catching on... IMO, mainly due to the fact that there are no trance "fathers" acting out of Russia, like the many that work in England, Germany, Israel and to a lesser extent Scandinavia, no one out there to lead the Russian sound to the next levels.

And that's a shame.

to Alex Ash: I'll mail ya!

to Asaf: long time no see bro! Russian trance, eh. I won't call it meat - it's pure energetic-amphitaminic-industrial with different load of chemical/indo surrounding sounds. Many groups that produce trance in Russia are very good sound engineers, but not musicians. Also, I hope you remember my progressions in the past. =)))))

Oki, I'll be around.

Are you saying that there is one Russian act that goes with the "Russian", that are in the same production league as Vibrasphere or Biotonic (let alone Haldolium, Bitmonx, X-Dream, Astral, or any other production wizards)?

no way.

not by a long shot.

WEll, I'm not saying anything for, or against - it's just different. And I think that now there are more artists that I prefer like Lish, Vibra, Stralia, Noosphere, etc. Russians are going into techno. Very hard one. I can compare "russian sound" with Yumade or Magus, who are making the same techno-like music (which is not really music for me). Concerning Biotonic I should admit, that it's very good. I like them!

Yeah, well, if power was the only thing in trance, it would be called "cheapass techno".... In the power department, trance just doesn't compare. The fact is that there are other things in trance, and the Russian acts have a tendancy to ignore that :)

Droopah: looking forward to receive a mail from you :-)

All: guys, you have been talking about a possibility to compare the "Russian sound" with different projects, doesn't matter if it is Yumade or Vibrasphere, but is there really something that is Russian Sound, don't you think that it is some kind of labels speculation and in fact there is nothing that can be identified as "Russian sound", well few different projects, making different music... I agree that not always nice musically and technically. I am not pessimistic, the target of the topic was to find out is there any Russian sound or people are judging using few widely released groups as a criteria...

I just said that the Russian scene needs a leader to take it forward, like X-Dream and Tim Schuldt in Germany, AP and MFG (later replaced by Space Cat and IM, and later replaced again, etc) in Israel, Hallucinogen and Quirk in the UK....

You get the point.

It's hard to start from nothing and develop into a full-scale act. Listen to really early goa, and notice that it took the entire scene about 10 years since it started to get the whole production level to the current level. Technique is hard to learn if you don't have anyone to learn from.

Asaf: yes, I can fully agree with you but, for instance, there is another possibility, like maybe Tromesa in Poland or there are many examples like that... I mean that one project is writing music the way they think are fit them to express thenselves and nobody talks about Polish sound... The same maybe... I don't know, Logic Bomb in Sweden... They are writing something that doesn't look like traditional Swedish music... And thinking about what happening in Russia, is it possible to say that Russian sound is existing, why not to say that all we have are just few groups writing different music...
