wow, ok that's roughly the size of mine. I think you're ok on the positioning of the acoustic material. You shouldn't need to fool with the mattress, and the only place in the room that matters how it sounds is where your focal point ( your head ) is from the monitors. Make sure you get their elevation as close to the same level as your ears that you can. Not too low nor too high. Also try to make sure the rear edge of the monitors are about 10 inches from the wall, and approx 60 inches apart as mentioned earlier..
And don't forget that the volume is key.. Control the volume of your monitors with the gain on your sound card control interface and not your production software. You'd want your virtual mixer master channel in your production sequencer ( ie: cubase ) to be hitting no louder than -2db when all the layers are playing of course. A good way to test this would be to play a clean wav file of a similar track at a slightly lower than normal level, then try to start your production work. I've noticed a lot of new producers are trying to "jam out" while composing and it can really come out messy with an improper studio volume. The frequency response of the monitors are going to deliver a full spectrum to that focal point that you set them up for, so trust your layout and trim the fat in your sequencer channel eq's, then try, and try again heheh           New Album : Spirals of Time : Now Available !
