I dont what the problem is as number trks in the mainstream sector appear on numerous albums .. and even on certain dj mix albums ..

if u miss it one release you can get it on another simple as that .

Just check most YSE releases, I don´t think it´s different, their compilations have mostly released stuff... If you are fine with them, why complain about the other labels?

well i generally think YSE comes out with atleast 80% if not more released material on their compilations and i always look at it as the best of sorta compilation(not that their compilations actually carry all the best tracks)

but usually thats the way it looks like..

I think all releases should come out with at least 72 minutes of previously unreleased music.

right on spot...

I'd like to add that bigger labels do that much more than small labels. Why? Because this is done for the money.

See, relatively new professional labels, like PsyTropic Records, Exposure Productions and High-End Records release always 10 previously unreleased tracks.

Now more stabilished labels like Hom-Mega, Phantasm and Utopia records keep releasing tracks from their artists albums on compilations (usually before the album).

thats exactly what i was reffering to...

It's about money, only "big hit" tracks are released twice...

but does the listener buy it twice...??? not always...rite?

Here's another perspective. It's common knowledge now that, no matter what their contracts might say, it is increasingly uncommon for artists to get paid anything more than the basic advance for the tracks they release. No royalties. Why this should be you must ask the labels. For projects who don't play live, or who aren't fortunate enough to get on the international circuit, getting tracks released more than once is often the only way of getting anything reasonable back for the days or weeks spent writing them.

The constant demand for unreleased music is therefore (IMO) one of the factors driving down the quality of released music in the scene - if you're only going to get paid 200 euros for a track it removes some of the impetus to put more than 200 euros worth of time into it.

well thats a view i really wasnt aware of that ...being on the artist side..that part does make some sense...but still am sure artists have a couple of tracks up their sleeves which were made but not yet released dont u think??

Totally sucks... If people are supporting your music the least you can do is to keep it fresh and original.

maybe they afraid that only one release of the track with only one label is not enouph and they do it twice to make sure that everyone would listen it...           ~~~~~~~namaskar~~~~~~~~~

I don't see any problem with multiple releases of a track. I tend to buy single artist albums and not compilations so I don't have an issue with it. However if it is a legitimate problem then the cause needs to be laid at the door of labels and not the artist concerned. The pressure put on signed artists by a label can be enormous and as Colin mentioned earlier, royalties are just not forthcoming even when a label has licenced a track out to other labels. I don't think there are many people out there who realize the time constraints put on a big name artist who is having to travel relentlessly, cover the home base, find time to rest, and still write new stuff all the time while having to deal with new influences floating around in the head and the urges to try something different. And because they are big names, labels see them as a target to increase their sales figures and pressurize non stop for a track for their next compilation. So my two bits worth would be to not whinge about finding out that you have been duped into buying the same track twice. Its a practice that has been around ever since music was first recorded on bacalite and it most certainly is not a practice that is going to go away. Its a free market out there and nobody compels anybody to buy a specific CD. Its all free will - take it or leave it economics.
