good day all,
it just struck me reading another thread that a lot of remixing gets done in our (trance) world. what do people think of this? are remixes generally better or worse?

maybe this is a stupid question but it seems to me that an artist will have a particular conception of a track, maybe how it developes - 'the story it tells' seems to be a favoured expression for this around here - and a remixer (unless its the original person in some other guise) may not be sensitive to this and hence remove key elements.

i guess you could argue its then the remixers turn to tell the story and his evaluation is equally valid so my point has no substance, but somehow i feel (and i don't know much about production so i may be wrong) that the bulk of the work is with the original artist and a remix just jiggles things around a bit.

anyway, to the floor , what do you guys think?           >>love will tear us apart...<<

im sure u enjoy good remix and dont the bad one...
so, just try to listen to more good and less bad, thats all...
in global u cant say remixes better than original, and u cant say opposite...

Actually, I think that remixes are a good thing. There are some acts that remix SO well that I usually prefer their remixes to originals (Bitmonx for instance is a great dancefloor remixer, just takes away all of the "mistakes" from the track). Of course, some remixes just take away everything that's special about a track. But hell, the original is always still there, and if a remix is worse, well, JUST DON'T HEAR IT.

So what can be bad?           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

some remixes can really do justice with the original work (just check out the Infected's remix of Oforia's Millions of miles away). but sometimes, people can get a wee bit carried away, like the shidapu+jorg remix to spiritual healing, or the yahel remix to that same track; and than there're the infamous Psycho remixes (talamasca being one of the more awkward ones) and plenty more.

i think, personally, that making a remix which is flawed in comparisson to the original, is like saying "i just wanna do a remix". yet by that you are missing the point and you lose the idea the original artist/s tried to convey.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. Well i guess this is not a very well placed question, its the same thing like asking if a psy trance track is good/bad/or indifferent.
If something is good is good if its bad then its bad as simple as that.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

i think it's good if the remixer gives a different angle of the track, a different perspective .

well imho a remix 2 a track is an artists (the remixer) perspective on a track...
if 4 example i'd hear a track, and i'd love some things in it, but i'd think i can make it even better then it is great... it is makin' sth better, or at least in my way...
remixes is not just 2 take a track and add some FX's 2 it (4 example allmost all the GMS remixes) but it is 2 take the track and make it your style (4 example Son Kite's remix 2 Cosma's Out Of Range)
Thats my opinion though....           "...God made weed, Man made booze. Who do u trust?..."

well imho you cant say what is better orignals or remixs like all the others says before me but usually even if the remix isnt as good as the orignal the remix give you a more refreshing sound of a track u already like!(but sometime a little sick of hearing it)

and about what jason said before
i personally really like when artist change the track completely because this way you have the orignal that you like and a new totaly difreat track! and its not like haveing the same track twice.

i hope you all understand the meaning of what i ahd to say and im sorry for the writeing misstake!

ps a remix that wasnt mentioned here as one of the better remixes and i think should be ---------blt - lemon (psycraft rmx)
