ummm, for a live set definetly, and their are some artists that have done that (in other scenes) e.g. jeff mills (in 1996 he release a album of him playing a live set in japan) other genres specially rock has done that. but still I wouldn't like to download a live I rather buy a live album after being mastered etc... (and it has to have some of the crowds noise on the background give a bit more o a live atmosphere).

For a dj set? nahh their are loads of crap djs (sorry but its true) and if all of them decided to release something like this then dammmm their will be even more crap stuff out their in the market           "Great things are only possible with outrageous requests." Thea Alexander

This is a very interesting conversation and if I had more time today I would write an essay about it.

First of all I can tell you that there is almost no point in releasing live records or mix cds since the market is so low and it's almost impossible to sell these products in our scene. But like everything else you can't only see on only the specific sales on one cd ... as an artist you have to see to the wholeness on what you're doing and of course also in a long term. Trance record labels will almost never release live albums since they’ll not sell enough … people who pay for their music want new and fresh things (not that a live concert can’t be fresh but still there is more new music on an album than in a live concert). On the other side it can be really important for an artist to get out with their live sets and of course the same goes for DJs. I would like to see more innovative artists and djs in the scene …. It’s not only about making and playing music … you have to get it out and since labels most of the times lose money on the releases you can’t sit on your fat asses and wait for someone else to do this special things for you. If you’re an artist and you want to get out with your music and travel around the world … do something new … test all things you can come up with … let the people know that they can expect new and interesting things from you in the future and not only when it comes to music but also all other things. Try to be exciting …. What an artist is doing is to entertain and give people nice experiences. Music is one of the strongest tools in the world to do this but if you combine it with other things it will get even more exciting.

Most people reading this forum are trance listeners …. Don’t forget that you have a very big power and impact to move the scene, force the labels and artists to be better and better. The ways you can do this is to let the artist know when you’re happy for something they’re doing … most people need to hear that what they’re doing is great and this will also make them do even better next time. The same goes for the reverse … if you don’t like what someone did .. tell them or tell other. This is your power … USE IT … and I can promise you that there will be a change in the scene.

A small example … our free Son Kite lives recording …. So extremely many people have sent personal email to me about how happy they got for that and how much positive energy that live recording has given them. For me that’s the biggest gift in the world. That people on this forum let other people know that they like the son kite live set is just a proof that it helps to do something different … to do something extra and of course let the people now that you’re always trying to achieve something more in all aspects.

In April we’ll release a live DVD that we recorded in Tokyo a couple of month ago. This will be released on DIGITAL structures. Maybe you question yourself; why aren’t more labels releasing live DVDs with their artists. The answer is very easy …. It’s impossible for a label to pay these costs and they will loose extremely much money. So Marcus and I made the decision to loose 20 000 EUR and pay for the recoding, editing, visuals … everything except the pressing ourselves. Why? We want to do something more, we have so many ideas to make real and since we’re actually earning a lot of money because all you guys are showing your appreciating for our live act and making promoters around the world book us for their events … we want to put money back to you and give you something more.
We will loose big time on our album release because of this but we don’t care a second about that since we know that this is the only way to do it in a long term sense. My only wish is that more and more artists would do thing like this … as a respect to all you listeners that make it possible for us to work with what we love.

It was really hard to write this since one of my cats think the computer is really interesting and wants to write things all the time …. I can’t hold back anymore sine he is so cute … so this is from Talvin: ‘’dfdb11111111bååå …. Don’t ask me!!!!!

Take care and have a great weekend!

Just a note...I first got into Son Kite when I downloaded a live set of theirs. Not this recent one from Malmo....one that is much older. I ended up buying **every single** 12" of theirs, up until a certain point. Also bought both albums. So that was clearly good promotion =).

I really liked the minimal, entrancing, hypnotic stuff Son Kite used to make. Like Back Beyond Rotation. Topic:perm/Consign 12" was the peak for me. Those 2 tracks do something very strange to me. I can see and feel this different place...but it is all blackness...but not in bad way.

Although I really liked the energetic side too, like Perfiation.

Anyway, son kite eventually became too fluffy for me =).
