good for you and i hope it works for a deacde..
but the reality is that rain are an overpriced bunch of crap.

they use cheap clevo laptop cases with standart hardware and overprice them to death with the excuse of tweaked windows for audio ( i can do that in a couple of hours )
and a shity so called support!
30 day trial audio support and 1 year limited warranty?? yeah right.
but ok lets say the laptop isnt that expensive ( 1599$ it has a core i7 )

the desktops are by far the most overpriced piece of junk.
check the site and see what they sell for 3699$ http://rainrecording.com/products/element/
hahaha these guys are ridiculous.. with this amount of money i can build a system twice faster in all areas ( ssd, 8g ram 2000mhz, bluray, gpu, cooling, case,, better mobo, and a Intel Core i7 980X (1366, 3,33 Ghz, 12Mb)cpu.. )

stay away!

ok sorry
guess im an idiot , I dont know how to put a laptop together like you , wish I heard this before i bought it , but I really have had zero problems recording bands with 16 mics, and together with my presonus firestudio( I guess presonus is not good enough for you too it only cost 500$) it runs perfectly and smoothly for 3 years, and fast , its the only laptop that worked stable enough with my presonus because of its 72000 rpm harddrive , and it was still cheaper than a macbook

ps: I love your tunes no matter what you use. Oh and if it really kills any macbook or not I really would nt know, i just like to piss off mac people like that

IMO apple, 'custom-made' audio laptops/towers are incredibly overpriced for what they do. I spent the last couple weeks checking laptops out for me and my girlfriend and I decided to order this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220734

for $870 you get pretty much everything you need....4gigs of ram, 500gig HD, 2.4GHZ i5, 7200 RPM HD, 4 USB ports, made by ASUS so you know its quality, and a 17" screen (some may like it smaller for gigging but I like the big screens..and its still only 6.9 LBS)

These days, I would never, EVER spend more than $1000 on a laptop - especially if you're using it on the road....can't imagine how pissed I'd be if my $3500 laptop got stolen or broke...It's just not worth it, at least for me. Shit, for your $3500 budget you could get a laptop, build your own custom PC tower with really high-end parts AND STILL have money left over for a new synth or something. Absolutely no reason what so ever to spend that much for music production IMO - you plain and simple do not need that much.

But sure if you feel like spending an exorbitant amount of money for Apple and all their shitty business practices and closed marketplaces, go for it - I personally am boycotting all their products until they stop acting like a bunch of elitist assholes.           If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Huh, damn, you're right Orange. I wonder if you could request a version with firewire. Very valid point you have there!

I bought my desktop from these guys and am truly happy with it ;-) not even upgraded to 64 bit yet, wich alongside 6 extra gigs of ram will be a future project. In other words, 6 instances of Omisphere with several samples loaded and a broad spectrum of midi notes in several patterns combined in the playlist of FL + automation, other synths like ACE etc. is no problem as it is right now...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

upavas, have you been using Omnisphere multi-timbrally or w/e, so that you're only using 1 instance of Omnisphere but it sends its 8 different parts out to different channels?

really awesome in ableton, as each part has its own dedicated MIDI and Audio track that you can throw effects on that only affect that part

Ever since I started doing that Omnisphere has given me no CPU problems what-so-ever, where in the past I wouldn't be able to load more than 6 or so without it overloading my CPU.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

if you travel a lot and got a powerfull laptop i m not sure you ll be able to watch a full movie with batterry life ( i have no idea at all but it might be true)battery life is something to take into account imo when traveling + it will get very hot and make lot of noise, all todays cpu are fine enought to make a track so it maybe better to take something less powerfull like the i5/i7 with 2 core,i would get the new mbp with the 3 years warrantly, it s overpriced yes but you can use cubase logic abelton...depends what os you like the most, if you like more osx get a mac .
between a very powerfull one that get hot and noisy with no battery life or a silent one with long battery life than run osx the choice is easy to me , i don t play games that need lot of power thought

what about an alienware m11x? they have just launched a new version with i5 and i7 processors, they can have up to 8 gig of ram and a 500 gig hd, all in 2 kg and the pricing is fair $1,299.00. I think there is nothing as portable as that little laptop.
