dont mean to sound like an ass, but i dont think the topic is "the definition of the word rave." please post more history, i'm interested. no matter how you look at it, "raves" have effected us in one way or another.

Perhaps this might be somewhat enlightening for you "ravers"

Oh yea, "RAVE" is just a word...and not one of my favorites at that.... A psychedelic trance party turns out to be so much more than just a party.... If you can't grasp this, or find yourself wondering how much acid I've eaten to be writing stuff like this, perhaps you haven't quite understood the essence of the Trance Dance experience!

Then the beats bubbled into an insistent digital pulse soon punctuated with kicking bass thumps. Computer bleeps, digital winds and melancholic arpeggios gradually layered the incessant beat, which approached the 150 bpm mark where dancing breaks down into jitters and tics. The freaky dancers rode that edge, keeping the flow in their hips as they chased the looping liquid melodies with their hands. Occasionally a disembodied voice floated through the mix, triggering mindfucks left and right: "Music from the brain." "There are doors." "Everybody online?"

so-called "power dancers" took the floor: utterly absorbed, ceaselessly flowing, totally dedicated to the beat. Their bodies sought to express every oscillating pulse, every twisting melody or Fourier transform, like Deadheads bonedancing in overdrive. Many shut their eyes, plunging through some private and glittering darkness while unsettling voices shot through the mix: "The last generationÉ" These people were surfing the psychedelic bardo, that liminal zone that variously evokes dreamtime and death, primal rites and apocalypse.

so true
super stuff ....

Funny, in portugal me and my fellow buddies call then "festas" Partys in general directly refering to psytrance partys, But the non psytrancers call then trance partys, as in portugal somehow most ppl Asociate trance directly with psytrance, something i dont see here in america...

But anyways if anyone ever asked me where are you going, from familiy to friends t anyone id say... Going to a party

And yes alot of ppl Call them raves, around spain, turkey, brazil ect.

Very nice article!, Liked it alot!

And btw Dallas isn't the birth of Raves nor the birth of the use of E at all night partys London Late 1970, early 1980's... Not all night partys but the use of E at them

Until 1985, MDMA was legal in the United States. Recreationally, it first came into prominence in certain trendy yuppie bars in the Dallas area, then in gay dance clubs. From there, use spread to rave clubs, and then to mainstream society.

yeah , Dallas is the place of E use in night clubs , but dont it sounds like ,Dallas is a birthplace of the system?

well .when somebody speak about Rave ,we automaticaly comunicate it to E or vice-versa .So why not to say that with the birth of E ,it all began, not Rave begining but system begining. Now, Dallas was a huge part of it ,cause E really liked the place or vice-versa).and finaly ,we should find out who named those events as a Rave.

anyways i stick to New York with Frankiey Bones and no way London with Acid house witch is Acid house and not a Rave.

In India, only a psy trance outdoor party is called Rave.

I'll second that.. psy/goa trance is the biggest form of electronic music played in india.. and raves are only associated with psy/goa trance.. yes, only outdoor parties though.. indoors, are just like club psy- nights..           The only things i can see clearly without glasses are dreams...

ya but thats just a difference in the definition of the word rave in two contries (USA & India)

Rave in USA is not equal to Rave in India.
(and since this discussion is going on in the America forum what Rave means in India doesnt matter so much...)
which means Rave still does not equal psytrance party (in the US)

anyway this discussions seems to be more about dictionaries than about parties
