i think the topic is in way related to music for the same matter...the promoter who wants to make a lot of money promotes the commercial music whilst the promoter who make it mostly because of dedication to trance well he then promotes Soul trance and tries to give the people the best benefits and party deco that is possible...I am promoter myself here in malta well actually i do not call myself promoter cause the parties are so small that we just organise a good sound system somewere in the nature and then we just stop the music collect money from the people for the sound system...as soon as we get it we start music again and this way the people now got used to it so when we witch the sound off they easily come and drop a few pounds or cents or whatever...In our parties though we have no deco organised but no one really cares as long as there is the music for us there is everything! Ah ok from this year we started having a small bar which we sort of organised but somehow or another we make so little profit from it in fact the drinks are sold at almost non profit and the people are happy so happy about this fact that you can drink so cheaply! We are happy about this all even though sometimes we wish to make some money out of it cause it takes a bit of your time to organise it! It's all for the music anyway that's our motto!

Boom           Your sound, is your music, is your soul keep them all on the right track!

For the MUSIC. For fun.
I think it's a very noble thing to put a lot of time in creating happiness for others and trying to let people experience a trancedanceritual.
And maybe behind that lies the satisfaction of my ego?

Certainly NOT the satisfaction of my wallet.

I fail to see why it's so bad to make money from organising parties? It seem to be political correct in this forum (and this scene) to protest agains anything or anybody that dare to make some money.

It's getting boring to hear all this bitching about money and the oh so bad capitalism. Here in Denmark we have somehing I thought was unique to Denmark. A little ugly thing called "The Jante Law".It's a unwritten law that will make sure you never think too highly about yourself and your skilles and make sure that your neighbour dont have more than you have. If he does he surely must be very greedy, untrustable, false, a liar and a criminal

Ring a bell?

I haven't heared about this "Jante Law" and I don't think, that everybody who has more materially, is necessary greedy.

Still I don't feel it is good to organize parties to make money. You also shouldn't loose any. The guests should help covering the expenses, with donations, or small entrance fees.

Organizers who think of earning will get tense if not enough people show up for example and that will have an effect on the vibe. They are no longer just hosts for a party, but businessmen.
If guests have to pay high prizes, they want to get something back in return.
Like this both sides are full of expectations and forget sometimes that a party is about creating something together.

HandA , what has the "Jante Law" to do with this?

its not wrong to earn money.. EARN/Deserve

if the party is shit and you still have to pay lots of dollars you will be unhappy...(yeah its not the whole world if that happens)
still we should all contribute to the sound system, the deco and the chai and the hard work from other people that wants to create a nice vibe! and of course the artists(which are heavily over priced sometimes)

everybody Earns from the energy of a party, the artists gets new inspiration, the people get reloaded "batteries" and a smile on their face(if they dont dry all there serotonin supply out with mdma)

anyway, if the organizers have a plan to collect money to make a even better party next time it is okej to take a extra fee, but if its a "one time" party you should calculate the expenses and not charge more than necessary for it to go around..

money in this scen should be a object to make better parties and it should all go around in a cricle...

but im not living in reality anyway so im probably very wrong...

of course people should have food on the table and hard work deserves reward...

bla bla bla... i have no insight in this thing, but i would never organize a party for more than 100 persons...
and i would only do it for the feeling of what a party stands for...

bla bla bla... yeah yeah,, i can eat shit if you want me to, but only for money...
