hi everyone,

me and my bf are trying to go Mother S.O.S 2008 this summer.

but many of my friends r telling me,
don't go, it will make disappointed my bf, there are so many bad manner people and fights.

is it true???

they also told me if i'm not "gyaru", i will feel uncomfortable being there.(and i'm not)

since we cannot get much psy trance in USA, my bf really wants to go big psy trance rave once in his life,

and since i'm japanese it's alot cheaper and combinient to go japanese one compare to going germany or england ones...

i wanna hear u guys opinion!

btw, sorry about my poor english...

There are plenty of non-"gyaru" festivals you might attend this summer. If that is truly your concern           {':' }Deep Fryer/Squirmtronix{ ':'}

if you want to go to a big psy festival then mother is probably your best bet.
unfortunately it is a sad reality that at large-scale psy events in japan, 'bad-mannered' people almost always show up. however mother also attracts a lot of nice people and the organizers are great, so if you accept ahead of time that you will see some unpleasant things, you can still have a great time. just dont pay attention to the crap you dont like.
you will surely get professional organization, great decor and sound system with mother. have fun!

yep, unfortunately you cant avoid the bad elements at a big festival... but I think Mother is the best of the big ones...

Personally I recommend the smaller ones of around 500 people...

I think you'll have fun. S.O.S. is a big festival but it has lots of good customers there too. Just ignore the "gyaru" and "gold-chain" boys and feel the music.

Japan is full of excellent parties throughout Summer, maybe about 3 every weekend. The underground scene is really where all the action and energy are IMHO. Try to check out some other parties while you're here.

The March / April issue of Sonic Traveler Magazine had a good preview story of the highlight parties of Summer 2008. You can get the online version here...

i went to Mother last year for the second day, and was amazed, despite the things I had heard, at how peaceful and good a vibe it was. first day dunno, maybe there were some idiots though, as we found a bag of wallets and keitais someone had thrown in the pond as an obivious prank...

other than that, it was top notch in my opinion, and I hate gyaru and gyaru-o           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!

I'm glad I went to Japan in 1999..! "Bad manners" are hard to imagine me, especially at an outdoor psychedelic party.

Gyaru at a trance party? Hard to imagine... cause they only liked shallow music. But I guess could see it.

And except for one or two spun loonies - it was the nicest, brightest, most evolved people I ever had the pleasure of dancing with... anywhere in the world.

I'm aware that Japan has a criminal element of and rude, "baka" people... but I guess it was much nicer when they stuck to pachinko, bars, rock concerts and malls - and had never heard of psychedelic trance!

Where is the ultimate psychedelic gyaru party? (I suppose indoor in central Tokyo...)

What kind of trance do they like?

What kind of drugs are they into? Is there alcohol sales at parties?

I've heard the stories of how trance became a "kids" / gaki thing in Japan... don't know how it would feel to see it.

let me ask another question... what's good to bring to rave?
i'm thinking getting cotage or lodge, so i don't have to bring tent,

but i heard it's good to bring portable chair... r there other things that it's good to bring????

I went to the Mother SOS party last year 2007. I have been to many psy parties all over Japan of different types of psytrance. Most "dark-psy" parties have very few gyaru/gyaru-o. But all the big full-on parties have too many, one party in Gifu was maybe 80% gyaru/gyaru-o. With that said, i was really impressed by the mother party. Very high quality production, maybe best i have seen in Japan. Best soundsystem, deco, amazing chill stage. and there were not so many gyaru. Big surprise. Many people, but many really great people there. The vibe was more like a alternative festival then a full-on trance party. I recommend going. It was really fun time, also amazing location at ski resort. Its good to bring anything good for camping for 3 days in the mountains, it is little cold at night, and really hot in daytime. a chair is good, extra food and drinks too so you don't have to buy there.

To answer brettfromtibet's question, a full-on party in a place which is more rural would draw many more Gyaru then central tokyo, partially because the gyaru style started in the cities but was really adopted by countryside people. The Fineplay music party in Gifu was the #1 for me, man you should have seen this shit. I got my bag stolen and everything! My friend went to a different Mother party which she said was like "another planet". hehe

@ caramel, my advice: avoid some parties that attract a special crowd from a certain country that I´d better not to mention here, which are causing troubles at said psy parties. They´re responsible for car breaking-ins, pick-pocketing, fights, the ugly dance they call rebolation and they do really behave badly. The girls are tacky and think that nakedness is beatiful. The boys are the bad-boys type. Fineplay, VQ and some parties are like candies for these flies.
Try small parties and you´ll find nice people.

Mother is the nicest of the big parties because they have different styles of music - not just the full-on artists from a country I shouldn't mention here...

And there seems to be a difference in the crowd from different Mother parties... S.O.S. being probably the best one... I dont know why this is...

Also, keep all of your valuables with you (dont leave even in your tent or bungalow)... especially if you go to a full on party with artists from a particular country...           The music was like new black polished chrome
that came over the sky like liquid night.
