EYB , quantity is not quality. Many ideas were already used by pioneers. So you have two choises to "fake" them or to make something "different" whereas i can't hear much "different" but alot of fakes. You must listen to any old music CD, Space Cat, Hallucinogen, Astral Projection or Wizzy Noise to compare it to new music. I don't think you will find many acts doing same musical work.

I fotgot to mention one more reason for music quality decrease and it is money involvedin scene. Once muscians were guys who done it for fun as hobby, there was no real need in that kind of money. In present artists live from money they gain from music so music became commercial meaning depending on money, art is lost in that case since there is no even most talanted producer who can produce 50 track per year ( i mean good tracks not fillers like most of this scene release)

Sound quality, quality is dimentional and personal. Dimentional means it depends on time, the old music we talk about was done properly for it's age. Same as present mainstream sounds proper. Wide variaty of tools available today doesn't mean better tools but easier tools. Personal means we all have taste which based on our knowledge usually.

For rest, you can't learn creativity it is right but sound design require creativity as well.

Those acts actually also copied music before them. They also got inspired by other artists and a few of them haven't really invented the spoon

Those artists you mentioned above are some of the most high-income artists there are/were. I can assure you they love the money they make and I am quite convinced that some of them even stick to their "forumlar" and never really change because there's money to make in not changing their music style. Actually without mentioning any names one of them once told me that he(they) did not change their style because they depend on the income - so much for your "fun and hobby" idea

Now there I agree

music is way more important for me. i also dont understand why everything has to sound the same today. when there is an artist who likes sound with a bit less mid range than normally, why not? why not letting any artist have his own touch in the mix as well?
our music sometimes sounds so robot, so mechanic, i think a little feeling of "any human can make errors" could be heard in the music aswell.

I'll not get too arguementative here, but MFG's New Kind of World album has clean sound and production and wonderful music. Appearantly, they released it 7 years too early for it to become a classic. The Art of Trance's Wildlife on One even eight.

Unless you're saying that production is much more important, than these guys just have better music, no? People underestimate the effect a clean dancefloor sound has on anyone, because I doubt people listen to these albums more than they listen to the last trendy releases. One out of fifty people, maybe.

I give people enough credit to say that they listen to what they like, so my conclusion has to be that the majority of the trance crowd thinks that production is WAY more important than music. Astrix even said that he works for good production and not for good music in an interview done by Mike A, who is not at all hostile to Israeli full-on. That "killer bassline" soundwork is what most people are looking for appearantly, only some hide behind the saying "well, this is better music too"... which may be true to them, but doesn't sound right for everyone.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

HandA, i meant, old days artists were inspired by some pre artists but now the inspiration is so damn close.

Kaz, crowd do not think, crowd are cows when artists are shepherds. Artists the ones who move the scene to somewhere. Astrix can't work for good music because even most talanted person can't release number of tracks he releases monthly. So only way for him to survive is to work on good production. Likely most of artists.

I give more respect to the creative musician/artist then the good producer/sound technician because of one reason:
You CAN learn production in school, but you CANNOT learn creativity.

And original and innovative artist can learn production with time, while chances are that good producer won't get creative with time.

And of course, I like to hear a track with phatt massive sound, but if I have to choose, I'll always go for innovation.

For sure, best would be the combination of both, creativity and good sound quality.

hip man I agree 100% with you, you left me no words to say
