excuse the provocative subject line, but couldn't resist.

my point is more that psychill is going downhill. by psychill i mean the overproduced tip/shpongle/ott/shulman kinda stuff that probably got most of us here.

for me the first masterpiece was mystical experiences, then came the Eclipse compilation, the first shpongle and first shulman. and it all peaked with shulman's in search for a meaningful moment.
after that there was worthy ventures with Ott, Bluetech and some compilations and other worthy and less worthy albums from Shulman & Shpongle. But it seems this style has nothing more to say really. at least nothing new and exciting. these things are to be found in other directions (which some psychill or ex-psychill labels and artists are exploring, true).

What do you think/feel?

you need to not expect so much from those classic names and start digging deeper for new stuff. the most interesting"psychedelic chill" nowadays is being put out by labels outside the trance scene. the sound has also changed a lot given the mentality of opening up to include new forms and structures.

check out the Galaxy album though... great sound. reminiscent of the era around 2003-2004.

I agree with Yidam...u should dig deeper.

I think psychill is too young to die.
if u got only 4-5 big names it means that it is still underground music that have so much to develop..
alot of ppl even dont know about this genre yet :/

What does Psychill mean? It means psychedelic music for chilling out. And there is freaking much of this music around, actually for me too much ...
And if u consider, that the word "psychedelic" is a term, which (concerning music) is defined individually by each person (e.g. minimal music can be psychedlelic too), it gets neverending.

Ah, and if u are just talking about the "typical" psychill, yes, I think, this kind of stuff has not so much popularity anymore, which is okay for me.

I'd much more like to say that the terms "psychill" and "psy-ambient" are dead. They stem from this idea that "psychedelic" is somehow a tier over "regular" chill. I think this is misleading.

It would be better to talk about labels and their direction. Twisted / Dragonfly type of downtempo music does resonate more with the early 2000's. Mystery of the Yeti, Dub Trees and Raja's compilations all belong there, and we probably won't be seeing more of those styles.

To me, Abakus, Bluetech, Tripswitch, Entheogenic, Androcell' and Shulman sound "the same" in terms of how I place them in time. Those were the artists I listened to after digging some more into the "psychill" scene.

Celestial Dragon, Ultimae and to some extent the new Twisted stuff (Shpongle 4, Prometheus' new album) seem to be carrying the torch nowadays.           Goa Goa-trance & Psytrance parties in Oslo, Norway:

Zymosis, Stuff from Sentimony Records, The new Electrypnose Album.

To begin the search.

gave up on it a while ago, doesn't mean that I don't check out what's being released from time to time, but I found a lot of great music outside this scene's borders...and the good thing with playing chill out is that there really aren't any borders except the ones you place in your head...

I am still amazed how many times you get to hear the same tracks over and over on a chill out floor, so many DJs just play the standard shpongley chill out stuff instead of trying something different           DJ Dovla | Interchill Records, Flow Records

Psychedelic music, and Chillout music in general are becoming the melting pot of music, so I would completely disagree because it has become the bleeding edge cauldron of musical alchemy, with new recipes fused with many other styles being churned out all the time.

It would seem to me you are focusing too much on individual artists and too little on the bigger picture of what's happening right now in the over-arching genres.           blip.fm/itranscendence

Same thoughts here.

Some examples of beautiful things outside this scene's borders:

And like Yidam said, the new Galaxy is great indeed !

@dovla > outside the scene's border ? are you talking about ambient/chillout. What are you talking specifically? i would be interested in your input.

The topic is straight to the Sphongle/hallucinogen. etc. and that kind of music. So instead of a philosophy lesson we could bring in our own recommendations and our understandings on psychedelic chill out which comes close to the names mentioned by bom*shankar.

like galaxy album and the sentimony records.

Well , I wouldn't call them Psychill, but here are 4 albums that are quite psychedelic.

Wonderful album from last year.

Don't have yet, but really liked the samples.

And of course, the new Asura album.

And also don't have this one yet, but sounds promising.
