hey guyzzzZZZZzZzzZZZzzzzzzZzy,
does anyone know if "psybient" or "psy-chill" is being considered for addition to the subgenre list? i have been noticing that a number of albums are refered to as either ambient or downtempo or both, when they are actually psy-chill/psybient, or at least thats what i would call them to distinguish them from other types of downtempo. there is a catagory for "illbient" so why not psybient?

Illbient music ...........................
itsssSSSsSsSSsSssSsSss..
tda iconoclastic music being produced by a community of artists based in Brooklyn, New York in tda early 1990's.......
tda word "Illbient" is a compound of the hip hop slang term "Ill" (a positive expression: bad meaning good) and Ambient.
While Illbient music is characterized by individuality, many of tda artists share a common interest in tda Dub-wise layering of soundscapes, Hip Hop influenced use of samples and a progressive approach to beat programming that encompasses all genres of world groove and electronic music.

In my opinion, Psybient is not(!)Chillout,
Psydub or any other known genre .
Let's take Asura for exe. (Code eternity).
This is pure AMBIENT my friends.
BUT, when i think of Elysium album (Regenerated) or in some cases Total eclips albums - well...this is something between Trance and Ambient and here we get PSYBIENT.

Is that like what was briefly called "trip hop" in the UK?
Anyway.. is there some international register of genre titles? Different music is called different things in many places - so its a bit pointless to try and get a definitive defintion..
and the term psychill is already used - but i would think of most of the shpongle er.. "inspired" acts to be along these lines - not really something like Abakus (who isnt particularly dubby either...) - but thats just my opinion - which shows the limits of too rigid categoristaion... I know you need some genre name to try and ask the CD shop keeper for - but I wouldnt get too hung up on it...
